Good question. At the last census, I and thousands of others stated we were Jedi.
I reaaly wish MSE would keep up with the times.Exclamation and question marks - ONE exclamation mark or question mark is sufficient to exclaim or ask about something. More than one just makes you look/sound like a prat.
Should OF, would OF. Dear oh dear. You really should have, or should've listened at school when that nice English teacher was explaining how words get abbreviated.0 -
Just to be picky, stating that the existance of deities is unknowable is just one form of agnosticism. One can also believe that the existance of deities is currently unknown, but may be known in the future.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. I follow common sense and logic. I try to learn how things truly are through and understanding of science. Therfore I am an atheist."Mr. Quin smiled, and a stained glass panel behind him invested him for just a moment in a motley garment of coloured light..."0

I also follow common sense and logic. I recognise that something cannot come from nothing, that the intelligent cannot evolve from the unintelligent and that the goo, to zoo to you scientific theories are irrational, especially when you look around and see the beauty, complexity and wonder of creation.
Apply your common sense to the behaviour of the early Christian church. These were not member of some fringe cult but common faithful Jews, who solemnly believed that in addition to abuse, and abandonment by their people, heresy would lead them to the eternal conscience torments of hell. And yet they turned to Jesus Christ and accepted Him as who He said He was, God. The one God, Creator of all things, time, the universe and everything. The reason was because He did what He came to do, pay the penalty for our past, present and future sins through His horrific torture and death at the cross and rising again, to new life, conquering sin, death and Hell.
I try to learn how things truly are through an understanding of the character and nature of the one God in three persons, father, Son and Holy Spirit, who came into human history as the God man, Jesus Christ, therefore I am a Christian. He gifted us science, art, philosophy, our minds and free will to explore and enjoy His creation. With these gifts we can celebrate His Love for us as the father for the fatherless, widows, orphans, the poor, the lost the oppressed and the lonely.
He is a patient God and a just God who has given you this life to live connected to Him through His son Jesus Christ or live in rebellion and separate from Him, where eventually on your death you will have your way and your eternal soul will live alone from His Love for all eternity, which by the way is a very long time. This is the day to put your hand to the plough and look forward to a future living in His light with sin , temptation and lies put behind you, serving and loving your family and neighbours with meaning and purpose - Take a look at Mars Hill Church Seattle for more info0 -

To be fair and to balance that out. Science never claims that something comes from nothing, quite the opposite in fact. The intelligent does not evolve from the unintelligent but it does learn and gain higher levels of intelligence. The goo to zoo to you is absolutely not irrational if you understand the basic scientific principle. I completely agree that we do indeed live in a world of such wonderous beauty and complexity but I do not for one micro second believe that an all superior being created it.
I accept science and the scientific principle for what it is, bloody wonderful and just feel good to be a part of it and to be able to share in it with you and everybody else
Take care.

FYI, most people who are Jewish (including myself) don't actually like being called 'a jew'... its a bit like asking someone what colour an african-american is, and they tell you they are 'a black'. Call us Jewish please. If you want to be hip, sometimes we'll refer to one another as 'wej' or 'one of the tribe'
My 'anti-religious' personal views come from a pretty good understanding of evolutionary theory and genetics (got a degree and masters before you ask). Once you learn how a slime mould can navigate a maze just through a simple chemical reaction, or how a flock of birds can organise their complex behaviour using simple rules.. you start to realise that complexity (often from simple rules) and chaotic behaviours make the world seem 'intelligent', not a higher deity.
I'll still call myself Jewish, because of my heritage and family culture, but i don't follow much of it (except the bits that involve food)0 -

Which scientific theory exactly suggests that something comes from nothing?
Also, where did God come from? Something or nothing?0
