  • Hi
I have been accepted for Optimum Contact but am on Virgin Media.Does this mean i have to use skype/pamela when making/recording calls? I am a bit concerned how easy it is to use together with the costs involved as i'd have to have 2 accounts with skype because of the 50 call restrictions per day.

Also,do you have any "practice sessions"with calls,or do you just go live so to speak.
  • I have been accepted and trying to complete my 1st survey at the moment, but so far I have made 10 calls this morning and either no answer, wrong person or not interested!! arrrrrrr Really hope that it improves especially as I have paid out for a months calls with Skype.

    Hi Paul,

I signed up to OC just before Christmas but have not done any calls yet.

I've read through one of the briefs and the introduction seems awfully long. There is also further qualifiying questions afterwards to determine whether the rest of the questionnaire can be answered. Do you read the script words for word? I don't want to sound robotic when making the first few calls...

Many thanks in everything you have done so far on this thread.

That is rather a mute point. I think it depends on the survey; it is probably best to discuss it with the OC person in charge of that particular survey and see if you can modify the wording to suit you.I have done this in the past and they have checked my recordings to see if my changes are ok.

You can buty a hardware recorder if you wish that can download recordings to your PC and then e-mail to OC. I think using Virgin to dial 0845 calls would be too expensive. You can, of course, use Skype and Pamela. Failing that, it is switching to Talktalk for line rental/call/broadband.

You have to be prepared to take the rough with the smooth. The fact is, it is quite possible to earn in excess of £200/week doing OC telephone surveys. I did, on one occasion, take two hours to complete 1 survey. At other times, I may do 4 surveys in one hour.

  • This is all very interesting. Could the people on this forum who actually work for this company please say how many mobile numbers they get to call per day or week on average? If you have to take into account for the cost of calls to their 0845 number then it may reduce your hourly rate quite a bit.

As I get free calls to 0845 numbers with Talktalk I do not have to worry about calling mobile numbers, so I do not keep track of how many number of calls I make to mobile in a week.

For some surveys there are very few mobile phone numbers to contact , the one contact number given usually being a landline. For other surveys there may be up to three contact numbers, one of which is often a mobile number.

If you are worried about the cost of calling mobile numbers for a particular survey, I suggest you contact the person at OC in charge of that survey and see what they can suggest for you.

Well done! I remember it was quite a relief to me when I got that first survey done.
