Burglar Alarm

Help, is anyone clued up on alarm systems. Mine's been going all night. It won´t switch off or reset. Problem appears to be front door contact. I´m not sure if door´s dropped and gap is too big. I´ve disconnected the contact but alarm is still going though not for as long. We don´t need the front door alarming as there are 2 big solid doors each with 5 lever locks. Can I disconnect completeley or can I link the 2 wires together. Anything to stop the noise. No we´re not on a maintenance contract.
Thanks

Firstly, you said you disconnected the fromt door switch, were ther 2 wires or 4 wires connected to the switch?.

Secondly, was there any power cuts at the time the alarm went off
Lastly what type of control panel is it

Sounds like its in tamper mode, you will probably have to remove the reed switch wires at the panel (assuming its a wired panel) as JimF says we need more detail.

In the short term you could pull the power from the panel but you will also have to disconnect the back up battery in the bell box to stop the thing going off.

Thanks a lot. Two wires to switch, both disconnected. Power had tripped out, now back on and alarm not going off. Its a Veritas R8. Would like to be able to reset it. Can I leave that contact out and tape wires up. There is a red light on zone 1 ( The one that's disconnected) but the tamper light is not on at the moment.
    Thanks again

I suspect if you reconnect the wires then the warning will go out and everything will be back to normal! It could have been the lack of power causing the alarm to sound?

If its only two wires for the door sensor joining them together may complete the circuit again the error light should go. It depends whether it is an open circuit or closed circuit connection!

    OK wired contact breaker back up. Panel is showing 2 red lights;
the unset light and zone one ( the one I've just wired). It won't reset. Any ideas?
    thanks again.
  • Is the panel doing anything when you put your code in?
If not try 1234, 1111, 5678, but know more than that as you will set off the RKP tamper for inputing the wrong code to much.
  • Dont sound like a tamper problem as you only have 2 wires going to the door, they will be feed and return to the panel for zone 1 front door. and you dont have a tamper light on.
So you dont have a tamper on the front door ( not a problem)

What i would do is a power down, mains and battery in the panel, wait 30sec power up on mains then battery. Then see if it will reset.

Some times i have had panels that have a software crash.

  • Sorry to be a pain but there aren´t any switches on panel. I´ve switched off at mains and back on but it hasn´t worked. Still got green light on unset and red light on zone 1. Tried to input code and reset but nothing works.
