We went BR recently and all of the creditors have ceased their onslaught but we have found a new wave of solicitors letters hitting the mat. They have read our details in the London Gazette, and now offering their services (for a fee of course).
Seems a bit odd, as if we have the funds left for coffee and danish never mide sol fees, and I'm not even sure what it is they are offering to do!
Has anyone else had this, It just cringes me out that there are people still trying to vulture money out off us now we have hit bottom and are aiming our selves back up.
I thought that Solicitors weren't allowed to "solicit" for business in this way?
Have you considered reporting the Solicitors you have heard from? Given that they got your name and address either from the newspaper or the insolvency site itself, this is just an awful way of seeking business.0 -

Hi CP - I was made bankrupt on the 26th of October, and since then I have been inundated with these letters. What they are proposing is an IVA to 'annull' your bankruptcy:rolleyes:
I did ask the OR about this and she told me that it IS possible to enter into an IVA and effectively 'overrule' your bankruptcy, but not very common.
What could the advantages possibly be? You are tied into an IVA for 5 years - if you default you are still facing bankruptcy, only by now you will already have parted with a great deal of money, and guess who takes their fees first?
You are right, and I have said it before, these people are scavenging on other peoples' misfortune:mad:  :mad:I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Does anybody have the weblink for the OFT Online Complaints Form?
I have found the OFT website, but I can't find anywhere I can complain!
I have had enough of MBNA - I am reporting them.
Am fed up of the threats, the demands, their rudeness and ignorance.
Would be very grateful for the link!0 -
Found the website!!
Have now sent in a formal complaint about MBNA to the Trading Standards Office and the Office of Fair Trading.
If enough people did this then they would have to deal with MBNA
The OFT will only allow you to complain about one company at a time, so for the moment MBNA will do. I reported MBNA, Amex, HFC Bank and Capital One to the TSO.
See what happens!0 -

I was talking to my girlfriend about my I&E last night and she convinced me that my travel costs could be a little bit higher if I include taxis and an allowance to see my parents (who are 136 miles away) a few times a year so she reckons I could push my travel up to £80. As I am paying £37 for electric at the moment she reckons £50 a month might be more realistic for the new I&E. My new I&E would be:
255 Rent (anticipated in April)
60 Council tax (anticipated in April)
50 Clothing
35 Gas (dont know about this. Only paying £15 DD at the moment but bound to increase over winter)
50 Electric
30 Phone
30 Medical/Dental
20 Optical
80 Travel
20 Water
200 Shopping/toiletries/food
10 Haircuts
20 Incidentals (what does this include?)
60 Birthdays/Christmas/holdiays?
11 TV licence (and this one)
20 Dry cleaning/laundry
That brings it down to 410 surplus.
I am also thinking I should put down £40 a month for my Student Loan when that comes back into my debts. What do you lot think of this?
I was thinking of putting on my form that I need to keep cash in hand in case Student Loans ask me for the whole lot in one go but also put it down on the I&E sheet in case they dont. If I did that, would it just be a case of adjusting the I&E afterwards if I did pay a lump sum out? And if I didnt, would they come bak to me afterwards and ask for the cash in hand or can they only do this at the time when the interview takes place?0 -
