I'd just like to take this opportunity to publicly thank sandralovescats for all her help and advice. Although I've only posted here today, I have lurked for a while and have read many of her posts. She's very very helpful and has managed to calm me down quite a bit with her advice.

Thankyou, i hope so.

We have debts, i say 'we', myself and hubby, mine are around 6k, hubby's 20k.
What's really kicked this off is hubby losing his job last month, before that we were just barely managing each month, now it's terrible.
I work 30 hrs per week and the majortiy of my wages are spent on childcare, leaving little left for bills. We have applied for tax credits and so on but have not heard a thing.
We were talikng earlier on this evening and i mentioned about bankruptcy, as wiping the slate clean and starting afresh.
I have recieved a letter about a ccj, at the bottom of it, it says about what happens if i do not pay what the court has ordered;
They will use bailiffs to take my goods and sell them to raise money.
Take money directly from my wages.
Make me bankrupt.
It was the last option that made me think it's the only way out.
What will happen? What will i have to pay? does my hubby need to go bankrupt too? Will my employer be contacted?

I'm trying to save even more money where i can, i have cut the hours of my childcare with hubby being at home, i take the 30 min walk to work intsead of spending £3 each way on the bus, we are only buying the essentials that we need instead of what we want.

I just don't know what to do or where to start.

if you go br on your own only your debt would go, if you jointly done it both would go.
do you own your own house? have any assets? Have you tried payplan or cccs? or even the CAB

SB. Is there a chance of your OH getting another job soon?

You won't be able to do an IVA without OH working.

DMP would be impossible with no income.

Neither IVA nor br allow payments whilst on State Benefits

As SS says, the house is the important thing. Most of us ordinary mortals
don't have any valuable assets that the OR would want! Just the house
and car!

Have you done a SoA yet? It might be a good idea, maybe post it here,
see if it makes things clearer.

any ideas welcomed br is going to be my only option, problem is the cab seem to just be dragging it out - i know they are trying to help and yes i am very very grateful. I am just wondering whether it would be easier to just petition for my own br before one of my creditors does it for me, Also I have a financial link with my partner for a loan, although it has nothing to do with him, how they got his details are beyond me..................., how do i do a declaration to equifax? other cra are fine. one last one, is there a website to look up how much a car is worth, just in case it goes t\"ts up and they take our car?

The CAB are dead-set against bankruptcy and they are told NOT to recommend it to anybody!

(Defences I think, when you at school/work to stop yourself getting bullied/ rubbished easier to take the mick and put yourself down it stops others doing it to you and hurting you.)

Hi hun iv done the same iv got into this situation trying to keep a roof over my family's head and for that im not sorry ,

right then, although i am taking advice from the cab can i just petition anyway?
my debts are going up by 500+ a month with interest the letters and phone calls are starting again. tommorrow i need to break the link between me and other half or brv will affect him too - or so i have been told. Then I may well start the forms off online

i got myself in now i'm going to get myself out and i have picked up some great friends on the way - cheers you guys!
