Thinking about buying a vectra
Comments
-
i would have a signum over a vectra
I would have a pushbike over a Vectra.
Had a few as hire cars and they were all awful to drive. I particularly hated the drive by wire accelerator pedal which introduces half a second of lag between moving the accelerator pedal and the car actually doing something.
Seriously, just get a Mondeo or something.0 -

I've never had such a problem with my Vec and I also drive a Kitcar built to sprint/hillclimb spec, so I notice stuff like that pretty damn quickly.
It's a come down from my old 2 litre 306, but the Vec drives really well for such a large motor.
As they were hire/rental, maybe it was something to do with the RPM limiters they nearly always fit to hire cars?“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

get a focus or mondeo, vectras are absolute junk imo.
i had an astra which forever had electrical faults, so i part exchanged it and got a vectra.
worse thing i ever did, electrical faults galore, engine management lights came on, the final straw was when it cut out on the motorway in the fast lane.
i will never ever touch another vauxhall.0 -
^^ And yet the Police swear by them as traffic cars.....
The car tells you when its found a problem so you can get it fixed, not so that you can carry on until it finally dies.
Mine told me my brake light was out, next day I popped into the shops and bought a bulb.
It told me the coolant level was low (after changing the cambelt and waterpump), I went and topped it up.
It's telling me it needs a service, i'll do that myself when I get paid.
Ignore the warnings and well..... What can I say?“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Couldnt agree more, driving a vectra is the equivalent of taking an overdose of mogadon.
Personally I like cars that communicate what the front wheels are doing, in a vectra you havent a clue, is the steering box filled with cotton wool?0 -

vectras? last i heard they found the 3.0 slow
the omegas are a different matter0 -
Thanks all, going by the general comments, maybe I initially selected the wrong choice of car to look for.
Looks like the hunt for a mondeo begins on Tuesday.Sadly, up here, they seem to be more expensive than Vectras of the same year.I suppose you only get what you pay for.0 -

The car tells you when its found a problem so you can get it fixed,[/QUOTE]
It doesnt tell you when the tuirbo is about to fail or the alternator is about to pack up, or when the fuel rail will fail, or when the manifold (on the diesels) will fail...
Most cars tell you things. But to be honest, if you were doing weekly check, you wouldnt need to reply on the cars computer telling you a bulb was out or the coolant was low...0 -

Lol, missed this. My 1985 Rover told me when a bulb was out as did my 1992 (range) rover. Nice to see vauxhalls caught up.0
