Thinking about buying a vectra

Try and get one in decent trim level and a facelifted car (2005+).
The estates are cavernous (ours was nicknamed 'the coffin carrier').
We've had two Vectras (2003 and 2006), the last one being a 2006 2.2 SRi Estate (which we had for over 3 years) and which I just put on Autotrader on Saturday
(....no, I'm not trying to sell you it!).
We're only selling it because OH's employer has forced her to go back to a company car because of her mileage and their intent on introducing Hybrids to the fleet (She now has a Honda Insight). Otherwise we would have kept it for another 2 years.
No real problems with either of them - both did over 20k miles per yearBritish Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Mine was an earlier one, and apart from a camshaft sensor it was faultless over 8 years. Spacious and comfortable, but old interior, underpowered engine 2ltr petrol and incredible lift off oversteer.
And did I mention boring??
Good value though.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
I have an 04 Vectra C, bought for £3000 nearly 3 years ago.... At the time this was around £800 less than most dealers were pricing at.
It's a fantastic car and i'd buy another one tomorrow!
Even on the low spec cars you get tons of stuff as standard that you'd never get on a small car for the same money/age.
The 1.8 is the most reliable, the diesels tend to cost more in maintenance than you'd ever save on fuel (but this goes for most makes).
If it's fitted with cheap nasty tyre's then expect the car not to have been looked after as well as it might and be extra careful.
Make sure the cambelt has been done on schedule too.harveybobbles wrote: »Earlier ones were soggy at the back end for some reason.
This is due to being fitted with rubbish shocks as standard, they last no more than 30k miles. On top of that the springs tend to snap too after 40k miles. VX fitted these in a last ditched attempt to compete with the other manufacturers in the the fleet market.
You MIGHT be able to spot a bad spring by checking the ride height around the car. Spot bad shocks by opening the boot and bouncing the rear end (should be smooth, not bouncy), if your unsure then the car will probably skip around on bumps and potholes too.
Change these over, fit some aftermarket springs and Bilstein B4's (OEM replacement shocks) and you've got a car that feels just as smooth and handles just as well as ANY German equivalent.
Fit more cheap rubbish and well..... You deserve what you get
VX springs are £250+ and fail quickly, aftermarket springs are £150 with a lifetime warranty, just make sure they're black (insurance don't like pretty colors).“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Do you know which companies do springs in black? Every set I've bought in the past comes in the brightest red known to man...0 -

Eibach Pro Kit is black and fitted to my Vec C, totally indistinguishable from the originals. Except the car now sits at the height of an SRI, but then with broken springs being so common, it just looks normal“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

With German makes EVERYTHING is an extra, with the VX Vectra most of it comes as standard on even the lowest spec cars.... Oh and you could run a debt collection agency from the boot.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
