Drat and double drat. I wrote you a long reply and cyberspace ate it.
Are you manipulating cyberspace?
Basically - p/t has advantages for employers as I'm sure you appreciate - so there are more and more p/t jobs it seems. Don't rule them out, though it may mean having 2 or more jobs at once. All good experience.
Half the people I know seem to have more than one source of income, that's just how it's going nowadays.Miggy

Sorry but my mental image of you is now on board a yacht in McD's uniform...
Time I had some rest. This is a sure sign my brain is going due to tiredness and I am working tonight.Miggy

One of the large supermarkets around here are advertising lots of jobs, all at 8 hours / 16 hours per week. One company is even advertising a job at £3.64 - £6. 00 an hour. Surely that can't be right / illegal? On a government website, too.
it is legal
There are different levels of NMW, depending on your age and whether you are an apprentice. The current rates are:
£5.93 - the main rate for workers aged 21 and over
£4.92 - the 18-20 rate
£3.64 - the 16-17 rate for workers above school leaving age but under 18
£2.50 - the apprentice rate, for apprentices under 19 or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship
The age at which you become entitled to the main rate was reduced from 22 to 21 on 1 October 2010. The apprentice rate was introduced on the same date.
If you are of compulsory school age you are not entitled to the NMW. Some of your other employment rights are also different.0 -

I thought, after i'd made that post, i wonder if thats an increment for young people. £2.50, what a cheek. You would have to still live at home with your parents. Its extraordinary how employers these days expect you to sustain life, on what? It must be equally difficult for young people.
I've lost touch with employment rates, these days, i'm afraid, and to some extent, i've always been lucky, as i've always been approached for jobs. Its a new experience to have to go looking.Debt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?

Today i will look for work i WANT to do and would enjoy, as opposed to work i HAVE to do.
Thanks for talking to me yesterday, all. It was one of those days that came relatively out of the blue. The sort of day when you think, why?Debt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?

Had plenty of those days. Things do get better, it just takes a very long time sometimes.
Good luck with the job hunting.
Talking about £2.50 an hour for young people I remember doing my YTS (as it was then). Got £29.50 a week the first year & £35 the next (this was the late 80's). Bus fares over £3 a week could be claimed too. One day a week at college, the rest at work late nights and all. I'd learned everything I needed to know after a couple of months so basically it was just cheap labour. I enjoyed it but!!
Anyway sorry to ramble on in your diary.
Sending hugs xx0 -
Hello Ani, how did today go? Is the site of the jab still painful?
Too sleepy tonight to talk, hope to catch up tomorrow.
