My stuffed womble was called Tromso - chosen in the proper way with a pin in a map.
Ha, i've been to Tromso, but i did'nt see the northern lights.
I've been to North Cape too, the northern most point of mainland europe. Next stop the North Pole.....................
Latitude 71 10' 21' N 2100 km from the North Pole and 600 km north of the artic circle. How about that for useless information? I've also crossed the equator, too.
Somewhere along the line i've forgoten all the places i've visited, and the experiences i've had, for which, maybe i should be thankful, ( not that i've forgotten ), which i had.....................:oDebt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?

Which reminds me, did anyone see Joanna Lumley? That was magical, even watching someone elses enjoyment.Debt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?

Wow Kerri - that's extraordinary! I always thought it was a Parliament of magpies (which might explain why we never see the gold) but when I googled, I found it's a congregation, charm, flock, gulp (!), murder, tiding, tittering or tribe. So now I know.
However, I prefer your suggestion: three lots of gold and some joy wouldn't go amiss!
You probably won't believe this, but after making my early morning post, i went to the front door, and lo and behold, guess what? A magpie sat right outside the door, ( well ,not sat, exactly ). I was so close it, i was surprised by how big it was, and could see the green tints in its wings. I've never been that close to a magpie before.
I have to say, now, it must be the same magpie, as thats three times, in a few days. Is it trying to tell me something? How strange.Debt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?

I would love to travel to Lapland and see the Northern Lights (if I was lucky enough) and go sledging with huskies.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

The furthest north I've been is Sky, and the nearest I've seen to a magpie today is the little blackbird family living near our kitchen door... but not to worry! I should love to go up to the Arctic Circle, though... one day... but I hope I'll see the Northern Lights. Mind you, I knew someone who saw them from Blackpool many years ago so maybe they will come to me (living a little further north than Blackpool now).
Where else have you travelled, Ani?
(And no, they prob. didn't have Tesco in many places in the 1970s, now you mention it).Miggy

I think i'd be embarrassed to list the places i've travelled to, largely on my own, as well. Nobody likes anyone who has been there, done that, do they? although i honestly have never thought of myself as well travelled, before. I thought it was the norm? I could'nt work out where sky is, you mean Skye? I've never been to skye, ( i have'nt been everywhere) :rotfl:
I hold with the view, its all well and good travelling the world, if you have'nt visited your own country, first, so of course whilst i've been to lots of places in the uk, i have'nt been everywhere. Although i'm not a fan of cities, i still have'nt visited places like Bath, Oxford, Cambridge, anyone live there? Lincoln too, has a Cathedral? My sights are much lower these days, although i've always travelled cheaply, camped, packpacked, whatever. Theres always a method of travelling cheaply, is'nt there? Its amazing the amount of brits who backpack around oz, yet the ozzies, don't seem to travel far in their own country, maybe because its so huge.
Ha, magpie just appeared on the hedge, now its running across the road. Its definitely the same one. Must be.
Somehow i got the impression you lived down sarf, miggy? Maybe not.
Well, it IS possible to see the northern light in Blackpool, for sure,:rotfl: MInd you, there was a huge amount of damage after the storms last year, especially to the tableaux
First stop, the dentist today. I'm still resentful i'm paying for things myself, as it were, and feel i should have waited until i've claimed for wtc, but there you go. I still did'nt know how i was going to pay for it, this morning, but i've just checked my account, and thankfully the cheque has cleared. That was pushing it to the edge, for sure. I'd checked, and they don't take card payments by phone, and as i don't have a chequebook, i can't tell them why i can't pay by cheque. Thank god, i can pay them whilst i'm there, now. But i'll be ever mindful of how much its going to cost. how ridiculous. To think that some people don't think twice about wasting money on food, makeup, frivolities.
I need petrol too, so maybe i should fill up whilst i can, as i'm getting low. I know where i can get it a bit cheaper. Somehow, i don't think this money is going to last for very long. Roll on the next pay day, whenever that is, are my thoughts.Debt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?

Hmmmm, just googled it.The first self-service tatco store opened in St Albans in 1951 (still operational in 2009 as a Metro), and the first supermarket in Maldon in 1956. It was founded by by Jack C*hen in 1919, who sold surpus groceries from a stall in the east end of london. I wonder if he ever got a share of the profits?
Strange, i never remember tatco being too prominent, until they'd already taken over the world.Debt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?

There was a t*tco near me when I was growing up but it was a completely different store then, a lot more down market. I think they might have moved their target market in the 1980s or something.
Petrol... it seems to be dropping at the moment, is about 3p cheaper this week than last.
Hope the dentist goes ok, can't stand them myself.Whatever0 -

Oops, spelling isn't as good as I'd like it to be! Ha ha!
Nearly everyone in the UK could claim to be better travelled than I am so I'm interested to hear where you've been and any good travel stories! What did you enjoy the most? What was the worst?
As for me - I have enough money to get by but not enough to go abroad. I read a poem once (never been able to find it again) which had lines to the effect: 'You are my view of foreign lands, You are my blue Italian sky'... I got the home and kids, other people get to travel. Still, maybe one day.I hold with the view, its all well and good travelling the world, if you have'nt visited your own country, first, so of course whilst i've been to lots of places in the uk, i have'nt been everywhere. I'm fairly familiar with the UK, having lived in the North-west, Yorkshire, London and Gloucestershire, and holidayed in Norfolk, Scotland, Wales, Cotswolds. Cornwall. Does that explain my accent?Bath and Oxford I've been to, good memories of both. Lincoln, Cambridge, still to do. Going abroad would be nice (maybe it's easier than I think?) but I also feel I haven't nearly exhausted the UK; I haven't even exhausted my own area, which is north of York these days. In fact I love it here from about March to October and really can't understand how anyone could want to leave it to go elsewhere. In the winter, though, I'd gladly swap!
That reminds me of when my DS sold a car via Ebay. It was bought by a dealer from Kent who thought he could pick it up as he was due to visit Sheffield. He was warned it's a long way from Sheffield but said it was okay, he'd be with us at about 5. He arrived sometime after 7, having found discovered the length of the mighty A1!In fact (says she, boastful of her adopted home county), North Yorks is 4x bigger than the next largest English county, clocking in at something over 3,000 square miles - hence I'm not to worried about telling everyone I live north of York.

Good luck! I hope it's not too bad. but it's good to be able to tick that one off your list. Good, too, to have cheaper petrol at last.
Let us know how it goes.Miggy
