Any REAL person there sat behind a computer screen, willing to take on a challenge? I suspect not.
I am real, ani, and I will do your paperwork for you. PM me with where you live and I will see how I can get to you to do it.Its strange, when you think i post almost exclusively in my diary, now, as i'm too frightened to post anywhere else, even with constructive comments. The powers of the internet, eh? modern life?
You are welcome to post on my thread, ani. And you are welcome on the self-employed thread.
I don't know whether you were ignoring my last post or simply overlooked it, so I'll repeat my question: Am I right in thinking you don't pay tax and NI at source? That is, you pay tax and NI as a self-employed person through completing an annual tax return?
You don't have to answer, of course. But I am trying to help you."Green pastures are before me,
Which yet I have not seen;"
I'd love to be a good example - instead, I am a horrible warning.0 -
Its a long way from Ireland, Wordsmith, but if you, too, are genuine? I simply would'nt know who to trust on this site. However, maybe the time has come to show i am a real, genuine, person, because its really offensive and hurtful to be on the receiving end of innuendo's and jokes.
I stopped posting on both those threads for obvious reasons, Wordsmith, the same as i don't post, anywhere.
No you are wrong in your thoughts and you probably won't believe it, but i pay tax and ni at source, i also pay a monthly ni contribution, and i also complete an annual tax return. So yes, incredibly, i pay twice. And yes, i've had it ' out ' with hmrc many times in the past, and they still say i have to pay twice, and i can't get the companies to not deduct ni and hmrc say i have to pay my own ni. Even then, i'm still behind in my payments. Companies are changing their tax policy, and all are taxing at source, whereas in the past, you nominated one main employer, to have tax deducted, ( even though they were'nt your employer ). Not helped by the fact i stupidly let a DCA agent into my home, ( before i found this site ), and even more stupidly, gave them my ni number. Someone afterwards said you should never give anyone your ni number. Suffice it to say, not long afterwards i received aroung 70 letters, all the same brown envelopes from hmrc, ( still got those too, mostly unopened ), from 70 ish different companies, i guess, since i did'nt open them all, with a different tax code, for different tax offices ! That definitely was the thing i most regret, as i let them sit there and insult me. I did'nt know any different, at the time.
I guess, to some extent, now hmrc see you as employed, ( except when it comes to ni ), although the companies don't class you as an employee, even though you are obviously, on their payroll systems.
Thinking back, even my cab advisor could'nt sort it all out.Disbelief, i think, was the word. I can still remember the inhalation of shock and the look on their face was priceless, as they, too could'nt belive the bureaucracy of my employment, ( or self emplyment ). I've given up on accountants in the past, as most accountants could'nt work their way round the ' system ', and there was only one accountant in this area, who knew how to do ' our books ' .Debt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?

I think this site attracts genuine people, Ani, just as it attracts trolls and the like. The same cloak of anonymity covers us all, so it takes a certain amount of courage to post and even more to keep posting. Nevertheless, from what I've seen of Wordsmith, I think you may have someone there you can trust.
However... I think a large part of your difficulty with paperwork is sheer lack of time, isn't it?
And as to **... oh, you've got me wondering there! Somewhere I'd really like to go. How many questions have I got?
Is it in the UK? I'm guessing 'yes'. One question down.
Is it mainland UK? Probably...
Well, that leaves me with a few options.
Somewhere I'd like to be... My garden! What were you doing in my garden? You should have knocked on the door and I'd have put the kettle on. Let me know when you're coming back and I'll make sure I have some Earl Grey.Miggy

Want to reply but am at work and limited for time.
You never know Ani, Wordsmith maybe able to assist you? They maybe more qualified in things obscure than any of us know?
And what a life you lead! No wonder you are depressed. Or if that is the wrong word, so down! Such a complicated situation!
hmm, maybe I should rethink my qualifications and do a course in accountancy and ni and tax law? especially with the way it is changing every year!
gotta get back to work see ya later0 -
Aaaargh, this is what happens when you work from home. Got an afternoon at home, and mountains of paperwork to catch up on. Must seriously switch off computer. Only came to check on work emails.
I wish i was in my garden, although i loathe gardening, so some else's garden seems a good option, to me. All the enjoyment, with none of the hard work. Its more g and t weather this afternoon, though! Sadly, i don't have a garden, now.
So wheres my g and t ?..................................................Debt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?

Great minds? Did'nt realise you were posting
Seriously the paperwork is'nt so much of an issue, i can do that myself, albeit, its a nightmare., and you're right, i don't have the time. It just substantiates everything i say. I still have'nt received anymore p60's, which is worrying, or not, as the case may be, as i should have a good case for receiving benefits? ( when i can magic £100 out of thin air). Oh, thats right. Its in the universe.............
Must switch off, and get this work done xxDebt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?

Sorry if I'm being dense here, ani. If you are paying tax and NI at source, how can you be self-employed? I can only think that at some point you registered as self-employed and have never de-registered, which is why you have to pay s-e NI as well as PAYE NI. Does any of your money come from a strictly self-employed (i.e. where tax is not collected at source)? If not, I would get yourself deregistered pronto.
I can see how you might be paying too much tax if each company is deducting tax and none of them are giving you your single-person's entitlement - that wouldn't be unusual I think, and means you will be entitled to a tax refund (hence the need for P60s from each company), as you obviously know and presumably have been receiving every year prior. I understand that if they don't issue P60s (although by law they have to do this by the end of May) you can ask them to put on headed paper the figures as a "Statement of earnings", which the revenue will accept instead - perhaps the benefits office will, too?
Completing an annual tax return doesn't mean you are self-employed, plenty of PAYE people haveto do this, too. But if you have a number of "employers" this is a good way for you to draw all the information together.
Furthermore, if you have been paying two lots of NI, you should be able to claim some back. The relevant website says you can claim back if you:
had more than one job and your combined earnings were more than £844 a week (2010-11 tax year)
stopped being self-employed and continued to pay Class 2 National Insurance contributions
paid Class 2 National Insurance contributions and your profits were less than £5,075 a year (2010-11 tax year)
were employed and self-employed in the same year and paid more than you needed to in Class 1, Class 2 and Class 4 National Insurance contributions
Please don't think I am trying to teach my grandmother to suck eggs, but - as I say, I am trying to understand the situation - if all the bits are unravelled there must be a way round it.
And I would be happy to file your paperwork for you when I am next in the UK. I'll let you know when that is. Decluttering the physical muddle will hopefully help clear your mind. There's a word for that, but I can't remember what it is."Green pastures are before me,
Which yet I have not seen;"
I'd love to be a good example - instead, I am a horrible warning.0 -

Five bits of paper a night - used envelopes to file them into. Bit of paper into the relevant envelope; when all the bits of paper are sorted into envelopes, take one envelope at a time and put into date order."Green pastures are before me,

just kidding Ani, I have no reason not to want to post on your thread and the lovely folks I talk to reguarly on this forum wouldn't have anything negative to say about me choosing to post or not - whether or not they are comfortable with your diary..to the others
Now what did I come on here for? Oh yes, arm is holding up - stupid red mark across it but I'll keep up the Rescue Oil and it should be fine ... but in answer to your question, i haven't seen Lucy about for a bit - she was over on the NSD thread too but I'm not sure she's signed up this month. Perhaps she has found a man, or is so busy with her spend diary and effort to get debt free, she's not had time to post - or she could be on hols perhaps??Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16
