Have you tested the disk by placing it in a working machine?

Make sure that you have at least this Driver ready on a USB drive, so that you can ger Internet access via Ethernet, in order to access the DELL Support website once XP has been installed.
  • Yes tried the disk in this machine , blue options screen comes up, install XP etc

So pop the disc in the machine and reboot, see if you get the option to 'Boot from CD' If you do, hit the 'Enter' key.
  • didnt get that option just back to the 4 big Microsoft tiles !
  • Got an error message - REALPlay.exe - Unable to locate component - because pngu.dll was not found

Also a couple of touchpad errors

Usually F12 will give you the boot menu. That will let you pick CD as the primary boot device. You need to tap the key while the Dell logo is being displayed. Then you will see a message to hit any key to boot from CD... Hit the "any" key at that time.

So restart and hit keep hitting F12 as it soon as it starts. Then choose CD as the first Boot device.
  • ok, thats the CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive ?
  • ok mate its now on a big blue screen with windows set up in the corner

Its now on Windows XP pro setup
asking where to set up XP on a partition/unpartitioned space etc

Choose the C: drive, delete the partition and format to NTFS(not Quick Format).
