Laptop not loading up properly

    Donnie its as follows

    PC is a Dell dimension 4550 with XP ( the one im having probs with in the other thread ! )

    Laptop im posting on ( which is fine ) is Toshiba Satellite Pro L450D with Windows 7

    Laptop im having problems with is Dell Inspiron 1150 . We got this second hand and a friend of his gran wiped everything and updated it so it was fairly up to date its got XP on it

    Got sidetracked with another problem ( Our PC sorted with help from you guys many thanks :beer: )

    Now ready to start on this one again :mad: !

    Any ideas where to start please ? If not sure of what info ive posted above, or if i havnt made it clear please let me know guys Thanks

    Do you have an XP disc for the Dell Inspiron 1150, in order to run Chkdsk?

    No i dont for the Dell Ispiron 1150
    I only have a Reinstallation CD - Windows XP Home Edition - Sevice pack 1 - for the Dell dimension 4550

    Is that any use ?

    Perhaps.... we'll get to that later.

    Are you averse to a clean install in case all else fails? It will certainly save time if you can back up his important info and run a clean install. Perhaps it may also need some more RAM. . :)
  • Not averse to a clean install if thats easier , have to check what he wants to back up if anything and have to check the RAM as i dont know of the top of my head tbh

  • Just checked with him, nothing to save as all schoolwork on usb stick checked the RAM - checked it in Control Panel > System > General
    assume thats the right place ?


    512 MB of RAM
