Should I Have A Financial Review With My Bank Manager?

I went to one with Barclays after spending a month bouncing off my overdraft limit 3 years ago & frantically paying in cheques/transferring the proceeds from my ebay sales. The "manager" wouldn't entertain the notion of converting my overdraft to a personal loan so I could have a loan but insisted I should have a Barclaycard with a ridiculous interest rate.
I'm sure these sales tactics are designed to drive customers out of branches so they can justify closing them & outsourcing to Indian call-centres.0 -
I don't believe it!!!

£12 a month - Why ? Is it easy to cancel ? Bearing in mind I still have the rotten stinking loan.
Hi Frugal
I'm not sure when or how I got sucked into the Advantage crock of sh*t account. Since I found this site I have put in motion opening another bank account where I don't get charged and am going to tell them where to stick it! A couple of years ago I tried to cancel it I think but was advised there isn't a different account I could change it too. Oh how naive I was then!!I would be interested to hear if you do manage to cancel the 'Gold' bit.

I went of the A&L one - I've spent the last six months sorting out my finances (no debts, but trying to make my money work harder), taken voluntary redundancy (so realised I'd no life insurance any more), etc. I thought I may as well check whether I'd covered everything, get a quote for some life insurance and get a free £25. The advisor confirmed I had everything covered, gave me my quote (got it cheaper through MoneyWorld) and gave me £25. So, didn't cost me anything and helped reassure me I'd done all the sensible things with my money.0

I work for one of the banks mentioned here and I can honestly say us cashiers DO NOT want to ask you if you want home insurance, reviews, loans, credit cards etc. We are literally forced too. The screen we see comes up with prompts e.g. ask customer for a personal review etc and if we do not process so many of these prompts and book a certain number of people for a review each week we get a good telling off! As for the reviews my friend is a Customer Adviser and tells me he literally cant sleep at night as he's under so much pressure to hit unrealistic targets - hence a lot of advisers have been driven to selling products which do not necessarily benefit the customer.
As for the ad gold if you go into the bank and tell them you want it cancelling you'll be forced to see a customer adviser first who will try to stop you from cancelling it (possibly try to sell you other stuff) but if you stick to your guns and remain adamant you want a current account with no fee's it will be cancelled.
Just remember dont take it out on the cashiers when they ask you we have no choice! You could always ask if they will log your complaints of sales bombardments as a concern and then maybe if enough are logged the big bosses will take notice! (Wouldnt bet on it though!!)0 -
Went for a personal review with Natwest last month and knew they would try and flog me their products. The only thing they could do was beat my home insurance annual premium by £40 and pay the cancellation fee with Tesco.
Had £50 credited to my account within the week!Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0 -
Hi
I've found these free reviews can be quiet useful. For example when I had my last one I was informed that an old saving account I used as a holding account for annual bills had dropped it's rate a lot in favour of new savings account with a different name.
They opened one of these new accounts for free and changed my SO over to the new account.
So I gained some extra interest for simply giving them the chance to tell me, I could of said no and never known about the new account.
I remember they did ask my about credit cards etc but when I told them of the excellent cash back card I had they said they couldn't beat it and that was the end of it.
It was pretty quick and simple for me, worth a 15 minute chat anyway. Give them a chance to tell you what they can offer, you might find something you like that will save you money. They also beat my house insurance renewal so saved me money there too.

I went to one with the Halifax. They changed my bank account which was ok, then asked me about a mortgage I said no, they go on I said no, they did it anyway, they offered me a CC and loan (NO!) .....although I did apply for the card later. The girl messed up my other account, and it all took 1 and half hours.
xxNevertheless she persisted.0 -

My Natwest have got a questionnaire about their branch at the moment. I'm tempted to fill it in saying how dissatisfied I am at having sale techniques forced upon me when simply paying a cheque in!
Bah this always happens to me when I go into Natwest. The people behind the counter always try to sell me that account that they charge you for (when all the 'benefits' that go along with it are actually of no use to me so not worth paying extra for), and I always say no, and could they please make a note on our account that we don't want any products / reviews etc. But it keeps happening! I have filled in quite a few of those customer surveys and written loads on the 'comments' section about not wanting their 'helpful advice' regarding my account in no uncertain terms thankyouverymuch!!!!! Nothing seems to work.... yesterday when I called the 24hr banking line to query something on my statement they transferred me to a person who was 'updating my details' and checked my tel no and address then went on to try and get me to open another account with them!!!!! ARRRGH! WHY DONT THEY MAKE A NOTE ON OUR ACCOUNT THAT WE DON'T WANT THEIR HELP!!!! it's sooo annoying. GRRR!Mmmmmmmmmm...... bargains.......!0
