Okay ...I have read yesterdays thread and caught up.

Pooky, I was set the challenge of thinking about my goals about three months ago. Like you I thought I have everything I needed or wanted, I am happy with my life and I found it very difficult to imagine how I could make my life better. (ETA: actually I found it difficult to think of material things I wanted, I could only think of what I wanted holistically...healthy kids and husband......happy etc)

I consider myself a slow learner but along with some other things that have been shown my plan slowly started to dawn on me and I actually feel like I have some direction in my life now whereas for the last few years I have felt like I just existed. Got up did the day and went to bed. Not unhappy but with a nagging feeling that I could be doing so much more with my life.

We are not all the same on here and I love this place for that fact. Some of us are at different stages of our journeys and we all benefit from the respective difficulties or pleasures that we experience. By talking about our respective lives and dreams and worries I think we all take something away with us.

    So back to my challenges

    1. Get my earning potential up to £35,000

This is so that my OH can try to stop putting himself under so much stress to be the breadwinner....although i seriously doubt that he will ever stop pushing himself....he is of that nature. But at least he will have the option.

I have broken my first task down like this..

No of leads required X % of leads converted into sales x no of times a client buys from me x average sale = potential annual earnings. This made me think about how I am going to find my leads and made me focus on a marketing plan. This made me then go on a sales course to teach me how to build rapport with potential clients and how to not devalue my services.

This directly leads onto my second task of becoming chartered. I am qualified by experience and my two partners are qualified so I could quite happily not carry on and do my exams without it having an impact on my earning potential. But because I want to be able to talk with confidence about my products and services I am going to carry on with my learning.

These two things in themselves will hopefully have a direct impact on no 3 to be thinner....I will stop eating out of boredom and happiness and sadness...or whatever emotion I happen to be feeling at the time.

All I want to stay is we get what we focus on in life....if you start out every day with the end in sight (what you want to achieve that day - be it just making the beds or reading a book) you are much more likely to achieve it.

Everything expressed by me is just my opinion and is not necessarily the opinions of other people...

    - get off my fat bum and do some work

Buffy this is not really broken down what I would call a carefully considered plan...:rotfl:

  • Well said Sammy. You definitely have your guru hat on this morning!

I think my goals had some materialistic ones in them not that I want to be rich but because a wee bit more cash would remove a few money problems and my mental wellbeeing would improve. I know it is wrong to be materialistic and my family are my all but ....

Anyway, I have a simple goal today. I WILL paint fences and hopefully get the washing dry. This will cost nada as I have the paint, will give me 'me' time to think about the other things I put earlier in the week and fresh air calms me.

Sorry I whimped out of the challenge - maybe I will review later today when my stress levels have settled.

It doesn't hurt to be materialistic Bookie...and it isn't wrong to want material things.

It is a proven fact that you need enough money to fulfill your basic needs. If these are not met then you will be stressed.....

go paint your fences, it looks like its going to be a nice day.

I am off to see another consultant about my OH's 'prostrate' problem!

Our short term goal is quite important, I need to find a new home (rented) before the end of December as our landlord needs us out then and I am due to give birth in Jan. Needless to say I am having next to no luck and we may end up in a cardboard box :rotfl:

This is my main aim in our life atm and our goal

I think you summed it up for me there, DH and I were chatting about it all last night and we came to the conclusion that currently I'm at the end of a journey....obviously as life moves on that might change but it's why I can't really understand why others are pushing so hard for something that isn't making them happy at the moment.

It sounds quite smug to say - I'm there, I've done it - but I have. I suppose that seeing it broken down into chunks in a challenge seems alien to me as I've never really done that on paper or out loud, it's just the way my brain works.

And yes - everyone is taking something from this whole challenge thing, even if it's not what was intended.:T
