Hiya
I've been away which is why i've not put my weight loss on here. Anyway, weighed myself today and am really pleased because i've not lost any but more importantly i've not put any on despite being on holiday! Yeahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now for a good week. Going to keep myself busy again as the house is a tip and i've started a new course with the OU so need to get ahead, also need to do my accounts, finish an assignment for another course and work. That should stop me eating!
Good luck this week.

Quote "So to keep yourself and your body healthy you need to eat protein which is basically animal flesh (hence why a veggie diet is unhealthy, but that another issue)" End Quote
I'm sorry but this is just completely wrong - of course a veggie diet can be healthy. Many foods contain Protein, not just meat - look at the nutritional labels on the backs of food packets - even bread contains protein.
The body needs amino acids which it builds into the proteins it needs so as long as you get a good mix of amino acids from different foods then you will be healthy. I have been a vegetarian for 16 years and a vegan for 2 years and I am healthy.
I wish people would stop pushing the "vegetarian diets are not healthy". Look at the facts - most health organisations recommend reducing meat and dairy intake and upping fruit and veg intake - why do they do that - because meat and dairy are not good for you.

I hope you don't mind me popping into your thread, but I am fascinated by evryone's idea of what makes a healthy diet.
cwodavids your long post was excellent and you made lots of very valid points. It was spoiled though by just one or two remarks which were "off the wall".
The point about protein being animal flesh is correct in as much as animal flesh is protein, but so are lots of other things. For instance 25gms of cheese contains the same level of protein as 25gms of roast chicken. Other great sources of protein include fish, milk, eggs, nuts, pulses and yoghurt. Of course a vegetarian diet can be extremely healthy without ever eating animal flesh.
Another point you make is that "diets like weight watchers don't and can't work". I can't comment on WW, but I'm sure lots of people can (and will) say that it worked for them!
My "thing" is Slimming World, where the emphasis is on a healthy, balanced diet, suitable for all age groups, combined with some exercise (eg walking) which should build good habits for a lifetime of remaining slim with very little effort. I eat carbs till I'm full, every day, with all the other food groups added to vary my diet. I have lost over 4 stones and know that I can live with this healthy eating plan for the rest of my life.
Ebeneezer it makes me sad to read that you are hungry all the time. You need never be hungry and you can still lose weight at a safe and steady rate. I follow the SW green plan and a days food will go something like this:
Breakfast: 2 Weetabix with sliced banana & milk (skimmed)
Mid-morning: 2 Rich tea biscuits with a milky coffee.
Lunch: A large (16oz) jacket potato with cottage cheese and salad.
Mid afternoon: A bunch of grapes (maybe ½lb)
Dinner: Tuna pasta bake with peas, carrots & sweetcorn (and I have a huge bowlful, honestly).
Supper: Mug of chocolate Options and a 2 finger Kit-Kat.
Now does that sound like a diet to you? I can usually expect to lose around 1lb or 2lb a week, which is generlly thought to be a safe and healthy weight loss.
If anyone would like to join us on the Lose Weight thread (a sticky at the top of the "I wanna" board, they'll find lots of recipes and support. We have members there doing SW, WW and calorie counting so don't be shyI let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -

Diets (as generated by the diet industry) don't work because they do not address the causes of people's overeating (including eating the wrong balance of foods) and under exercising.
Diets (as generated by the diet industry) can't work as they are a multi-billion pound industry - and if they did work, that would disappear. Which industry would proceed along the basis of trying their hardest to make themselves bankrupt? Unless of course - they knew they would always fail.
I shouldn't comment on astrology, but I'm sure lots of people can (and will) say that it worked for them!"Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Hi all
I managed to lose 3 and a half stone over the course of 2005 without joining a weight loss club. I did kind of cheat by borrowing the mother in laws Weight watchers books tho:) I've managed to keep it all off as well - although Im sure the dog is getting bored of early morning runs!

Hello all. Only managed 1 1/2lbs this week, which I actually got to mid week but we had an indulgent Saturday (well you have to have one now and again dont you?) so the latter half of the weeks effort was lost. Still we did enjoy it, me and Mrs Eb. She's actually in smaller sized jeans now, all because I'M dieting. doesn't seem right somehow.
As for cosultant31 s diet I think that I would be hungry a little as its not far off the type of diet I have. If I had the bikkies and choc I am pretty sure I would put on weight. I am pretty sedentary so my calorie intake has to be fairly modest to make a difference. No I'm not too keen on excercise,my pedometer says I take 6000 steps a day and thats enough for me.
Still hoping to reach my target by end of year though. Good luck everyone.0 -

Diets (as generated by the diet industry) can and do work IF the person following the plan is prepared to do as we at Slimming World tell them "change the way you shop, cook and eat, for ever". It has worked for several people I know, one of whom lost in excess of 5 stone, four years ago and has maintained her weight ever since. Do these (and thousands like them) not count since they don't fit the profile of dieters that you know.
I'm afraid I don't understand the reference to astrology, were you being sarcastic?I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -

QUOTE]
Diets were designed for people who are overweight and cannot be bothered to (or physically cannot) exercise.
The fact is, to change your life just eat healthy food, balanced diet etc. If you have weight to lose, you have to exercise. To start with you will have to exercise more, but you can reduce this as you lose weight (as your body needs less calories to function).
Exercise need not be strenuous, all we are taking is a fast walk which will leave you feeling slight out of breath. I am amazed at how some slimming clubs focus on food only and don't seem to focus on exercise (maybe they realise that if you exercise you will lose weight quicker and they will be out of pocket!).
At Uni last year I had to do 6 hours of practical sport a day as part of my course. My diet was shocking, I was having burgers and chips for lunch and massive dinners. In 5 weeks I had lost about 8kg in weight, goes to show you can have the worst diet but if you exercise you can lose weight.0 -
Hello everyone:hello:
Managed to lose another 1lb this week-pleased because I'm going back in the right direction rather than putting it on
My diet is similar to Consultant 31. It means I lose weight slowly but I don't feel hungry and I get there in the end. I have to say that even when I was at the correct weight for my height I couldn't eat the guideline 2000 calories a day for women without putting on weight. I need at least 400-500 calories less than this each day even when I take plenty of exercise.
Congratulations to everyone on their losses.
Good luck for next week.
