What a super idea - a rainbow windowsill!Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0 -
Hi all you experts - came on to ask for advice but have been wasting hours browsing the pages!
Problem - was given two pine bedside tables by friend who was moving - not really required but too good to throw out.
Ok condition apart from lots of ring stains on top - tried cleaning but no good.
So I have thought of doing decoupage - using some old Rupert annuals I have duplicates of.
Has anyone used this Mod Podge stuff that is recommended - or is PVA glue just as good.
I have never tried anything like this before but thought it could not do any harm. Looks like an easy task rather than painting as not got lots of energy.Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0 -
I use PVA, then varnish over when dry0

I bought a big box of vintage bottles off E b a y this week - all different kinds like milk of magnesia, other medicines, drink bottles, milk bottles a real mixture.
I am going to decorate them with lace and vintage papers and sell them as home decor. But i really think they will look better with stoppers in.
However they are all different sizes and I don't want to be getting loads of different sizes of corks etc which is a bit hit and miss anyway,
Could i get old corks and cut them down do you think? i am going to glue them in place anyway, no-one will be storing anything in the bottles. You're not your * could have not of * Debt not dept *0 -
Hi All,
I brieftly dipped into the world of upcycling last year. I had an old wooden trug in the garden that needed a coat of paint. So I sanded cleaned and painted it up with some garden wood paint and it came up ok.
I have a small photo frame I want to paint and stencil some flowers onto.
My main question is how do I do this? All I can see at the DIY store is big pots of paint for wood. I am ideally after tester sizes of alsorted colours for the flowers etc. Can you get a mixed paint pad similar to kids paints with all the colours? But obviously not kids! Don't want to waste money on tons of individuals or lots of bigger pots if I can get a pad of them somewhere.
Later on down the line I am looking at painting up an old mdf wardrobe and chest of drawers set. How do I go about that for the paint to "stick" to the shiny surface?
Thanks all in advance!
Have you tried chalk paint Rebekah? Or you could prime or sand first.....? Not sure about the picture frame problem, but looking forward to finding out if anyone has any ideas. An art/craft shop would sell smaller paints but would probably cost a lot more. XThe secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources.

I have a vast stash of cheap water based acrylic paints that I mix in to dulux (etc) emulsion to make the colours I want. I especially buy RTC paint in strong colours or end of line tester pots, then mix acrylic in. This fine for small areas. For a wall you'd probably end up with some streaks needing working in as you go. I also make home made chalk paint by adding plaster of paris to the recipe - chalk paint sticks to anything almost and will endure if varnished or waxed. I don't bother waxing with pic frames as they don't get thrashed.0 -

Corks are a beast to cut IMO! I have a lot of old bottles with marbles on the top, it looks cute & stops the grime getting inside. There are some fab altered bottles on Pinterest, maybe you can spot a top there. Artistic drippy candle stumps maybe?0 -
