that's so pretty, I love the vintage pyrex designs but never see them anywhere. One of the charity shops near work has just opened a special 'vintage and retro' shop though and I keep scanning their window everytime I go past, I really need to actually go in there but Im scared the moneysaving will go out the window!0

Most of my dishes are from the US. Sadly the British Pyrex designs were never as colourful or pretty as the American ones. Annoyingly too, the actual dishes themselves are fairly reasonable on eBay, but it's the shipping costs and customs taxes you have to pay.
I treat myself now and then, and a few have been bought as gifts. I use them all too! I'd never buy anything that wasn't useful. In fact I made a very nice fish pie in the blue casserole dish for dinner this eveningMetranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
ooh I'm glad this thread is busy again. I hadn't painted anything for ages until last weekend - got so caught up in my newly learned crocheting that nothing got done. But am waiting for the paint (home made chalk paint!) to dry on a dvd rack I got yesterday, it was orange pine but nice & solid.
Bought it from Don8 in Cheriton, Folkestone for £5 and it's the 3rd week in a row I've bought stuff from him. Once I had a whole van load delivered. Yes the house is heaving, but I am having fun.
Metranil your 50's cupboard & pyrex is gorgeous!
Is the pine armoire raw waxed pine? Varnished 80's pine is spray varnished & it stops the knots showing through, waxed pine is prone to it. I did a dresser without stain blocking - and brown blobs are showing through. I don't mind as it was new and I wanted it to look old & distressed, but it can be freaky if you don't want it.0 -
I believe it is raw waxed pine as I think the armoire is early 20th century in age, although the guy at the shop seemed unclear as to exactly the period.
I painted my daughters nursery chest of drawers without treating the knots and it has a brown blob showing through on the front too, but I'm not too fussed. I'll have a good look at the armoire when it arrives and if it is very knotty may well treat those prior to painting.
Has anyone here used AS chalk paint on wood without priming/sanding etc first?Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
Here's a small armoire/display cabinet I did up recently to store all my linen/quilts etc in. It was very battered, and just needed a good clean and paint.Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0

major envy! I can see your place is lovely, put some more pics up please
I used loads of AS C paint at first, and I've sanded probably zero, though I guess it wouldn't hurt.
The one time I put primer on varnished pine, then chalk painted it - it all lifted and was a major nuisance.
My DVD thing has it's 3rd coat on now. Might have got away with 3 if I'd been careful, but as it is, it's going to get a 4th later on. Slapped a coat on a spice rack meanwhile ...0 -
Thanks chalky
..got any pics? I love seeing other folks projects
Here are a couple more pics of my kitchen. I painted the chairs yonks ago so they are genuinely 'shabby' nowMetranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
And here are a couple of the living room. Totally different style. I love Mid Century furniture and the retro/modern look too, so went that way there. I always joke to OH that we don't have enough colour in our house!Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0
