Manda what varnish did you use? I've got to give my painted chairs a coat. Wax sounds like too much work so thought I'd brush on some varnish, but haven't decided which to get yet!

I find wax too much hard work too, but I also just prefer the matt varnish finish. Wilko's stuff goes on lovely, just work fast with it, and not too much on your brush. I usually do 2 or 3 coats depending on how it looks. My kitchen chairs have held up lovely, and easy to wipe down too.0 -

Lovely to see the finished product! Looks much nicer than when you saw it in the shop window

Wickes chalky paint works just the same and is loads cheaper than Annie Sloan paint. It covered my chairs brilliantly, all I did was clean them, no sanding involved. I also use a matt varnish rather than wax too, but that's just my preference. I also saw on tv the other day that someone just mashed up a chalk stick and mixed with normal emulsion paint, they said it could then be used on any surface with no sanding etc. Has anyone on here tried that method?
I haven't mashed up a chalk stick but I do buy a bag of calcium carbonate (chalk) and mix with emulsion. Works fine.0 -
I mashed up some white chalk sticks and they looked grey when powdered. were cheap chalk though.
it discoloured the paint so i wouldnt do it that way again.

I'm going to have to repaint I think. Can't shift the wax and it looks really streaky.

I'm now planning to paint my kitchen cupboards with the AS Cream paint I have left over. I hate the colour of my cupboard doors, and I think a tart up with paint will really brighten up the room.

Just wanted to show off my 1960's Sunburst clock. Got this on eBay a couple of months ago. I love it, and it goes well with the other mid century bits I have in the living roomMetranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0

Great clock! And I LOVE your kitchen chairs! I've done mixed pastel colours on mine too, so pretty. I've got a table cloth from Dunelm which has pastel spots on that really goes nicely.0
