Did you just put the Annie Sloan straight over the wood or did you rub it down first?0

I just painted!
well I hoovered it out inside first as it was a bit cobwebby, then I wiped the whole thing down with just some warm water, and I sanded over a couple of tiny rough bits, and then just slapped the paint on.
It's amazingly easy to use, and you can water it down a bit if it's too thick.
Just given it a coat of wax and buffed it up a bit. Looks a bit streaky..hoping that will go when it dries.Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
MV - I've been reading about Annie Sloan paints - what does the wax do?0
-
The wax is meant to seal the paint and add a layer of protection. The paint has a very matt, chalky finish and the wax adds a soft sheen.
I however in my usual rush in way, managed to put too much wax on, and as a result the paint has gone all streaky
watched a tutorial after I'd waxed it, and the woman said you need to use a teeny amount and work section by section.
I just slapped it on..doh!
Anyway, going to have a good old buffing sesh this evening and see if I can sort it. It still looks nice, just not as even as it did!Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
Wickes chalky paint works just the same and is loads cheaper than Annie Sloan paint. It covered my chairs brilliantly, all I did was clean them, no sanding involved. I also use a matt varnish rather than wax too, but that's just my preference. I also saw on tv the other day that someone just mashed up a chalk stick and mixed with normal emulsion paint, they said it could then be used on any surface with no sanding etc. Has anyone on here tried that method?0

Manda what varnish did you use? I've got to give my painted chairs a coat. Wax sounds like too much work so thought I'd brush on some varnish, but haven't decided which to get yet!0
