its been very quiet on her this week where is everybody.

    ive been offered this free

    lloydloom.jpg

Its a bit of an ugly duckling at the moment but I am sure I can do something with it.

would you try and strip it or should I just paint over it?

would I use ASCP or should i use some other type of paint, emulsion or eggshell etc any help appreciated please.

decorating daughters room next week in the hols so thinking of putting it in her room with new top on.
  • im doing a welsh dresser at the minute with hinges that sit on the face of the door and the frame (very similar to the ones in the pics below), ie you see them all of the time.
ive taken the doors of as the joints needed re glueing and i always take it all off too paint.
when taking them off the 8 screws that hold each hinge were very badly made and i had to re cut the slots for the screwdriver to fit.
i now dont trust these too put back in once ive finished.
ive search all over and phoned a few ironmongery shops but cant get these screws.
the size i believe is described as follows 2g x 1/2" this means 1/2" long and the 2g is the shaft diameter i need 2mm thick and 2g or size 2 are about 2mm.
anyone have any ideas where i can try to get these.
below is my most recent job which im very pleased with.

    that looks great
  • That looks amazing Steve. Replacing hardwear is a nightmare. I tried to replace hinges once and I couldn't find the same ones anywhere.
The blanket box is a great shape hmo. I personally wouldn't use chalk paint as it's too thick for the weave. Spray paint or eggshell would be best as you don't want to be waxing that either.
craftynutters, it depends if the pine is waxed or laquered. All the answers are in this forum if you go back a few pages.
  • Brilliant welsh dresser! looks great. I've been painting a shelf that my OH made from my mugs to sit under and my pasta jars to sit ontop of. I've painted it a duck egg blue and plan to put some hooks into it too just for decoration! also painted the mug stand too. Will put photos up when they are all dry and set up! x

Goals: Save £500 for emergencies, Save £200 of Amazon vouchers for Xmas, fix my holey clothes!

thanks for the compliments on the dresser.
i really enjoyed doing this one, it is "old charm" by "woods bros" still a fairly expensive maker.
picked it up for £60 which is my dearest item to date.
ive distressed this one a bit, it cant really be seen in the pics but it can in the flesh.
ive sorted the screws, ive had to re drill the hinges and get some thicker screws which are easily obtained.
just starting on this one, which is what the screws are for.
this is very old but it is a copy of old charm and the quality and detail are not as good as the previous one.

I've just given a lamp a grain sack makeover. This cost next to nothing and there's a similar one in the White Company for £100 so I'm very happy. ;)

Very pleased! The base all went horribly wrong and I painted it over and over again...
Good luck with your blanket box!
