    flo - how's the renovations coming along? Are you builder free yet?

    I've been given a 50s chair that's cross between a wing back and a rocking chair but on suspension springs rather than a rocker. Tatty isn't the word for it but it's so unique that I needed to bring it home and love it. I've never upholstered an entire chair before so took it to bits very carefully to work out what's what. The fabric and innards were disintegrating in my hands.....very, very dusty. It's stripped back to the wooden frame now so I need to get it rubbed own and then start the rebuilding work (I'm thinking of doing it a patchwork style as I've got some cream, brown and green velvet corduroy that someone donated to my stash. I shall uplaod some piccies when I'm done.

    I also found a fab chunk of retro fabric in a charity shop, it's a flax and cotton mix so quite hard wearing. There was 6m of it for £10 - bargain! I've just are a news paper template for a bean bag so will get cutting later and hopefully it will look lovely.
    The kitchen and bathroom men are done here apart from a small job to do in the utility area. Plumber is on holiday so waiting to have the heated towel rail fitted in the bathroom. Have the electricians booked here for two days - got a hole in the bathroom wall - ready for the electric vent. Need the new light fitted in the bathroom and the shaver point. Can't have the plastering done until the electricians are finished. I ordered new doors yesterday but they will not be fitted until the flooring is done. So - no not workmen free - won't be for ages yet.

    Afternoon, thanks for the suggestions for removing white water marks from the top of my console table. It is now all sanded down and the pine looks lovely, what do I clean it down with now to get rid of all the sanding dust please, Im a bit of an amateur is it just an old peice of rag, duster or do I have to dampen the duster down, thanks so much and am really enjoying all the loveley before and after pictures, and hope to put some on myself when my table is completed.

    I'm having another attempt at crackle glaze with pva, using emulsion paint this time. Something is happening, but I thought " the guy who invented sandpaper should get a nobel prize" :rotfl:

    Hi All, New to the thread!
    I am slowly (very slowly) trying to read through the posts but I wonder if anyone could answer a few questions for me?
    I have 2 pieces of furniture to paint, a chest of drawers and a tv unit.
    im looking at the Annie Sloan chalk paint in Old Ochre, I would like it to be slightly chippy so am I right in thinking I need to buy the wax too? What is the most effective way to do it? It says on AS website that the wood needs no prep?
    Any advice will be marvellous! Thanks xx

    you need a wax to seal the chalk paint ( ideally - although some don't) I like AS wax but there are others.
    You won't get chippy as in milk paint chippy - but light sandpapering on raised areas afterwards gives a vintage distressed look.

    Chalk paint doesn't need any preparation , although a good clean and 3 minutes sandpapering does help it.

    ====================================

    Meanwhile ... I peeled and sanded off the crackled paint and sandpapered and here's one coat of ASCP waiting to dry.

    Thanks Chalky, why do you need to seal it. Yes Ive seen the milk paint chippy which is probably too much for me, Im thinking, edges, slight bits of molding on the drawer fronts etc.
