Is it a light, medium or grey grout? Thanks for the link.

    I'd say it's medium grey

does anybody know if it is possible to make your own textured paint?

It is for use on the ceiling in the toilet (bathroom is seperate) so not exactly a huge room! I would have bought some but they have mixed reviews & I have been given a 10 litre tub of Leyland white matt emulsion so would prefer to use this if possible to save a few £s.

It is a housing association flat so don't want to go to expense of having it re-skimmed, just trying to make it a bit more presentable!

Sorry I never seem to be able to offer any advice on here, just ask for it!:o

I made textured paint using emulsion and polyfiller powder. It's on a plastic pot out in the garden and survived the winter. It looks like what we used to call artex.

Or could you wallpaper the ceiling? A single roll of woodchip or embossed etc wouldn't cost much, and then paint it with the emulsion you have.

Thank You chalkysoil, I was thinking along the lines of how you make chalk paint but wasn't sure if it would work.

Wallpaper isn't an option, the ceiling isnt flat enough & there is a mould problem in there (it has just been treated) so i need to be able to re-coat with paint if i have to.

I have a packet of grout, do you think that would work or would pollyfilla be better? I have a Wilkinsons I can go to tomorrow if I need to buy some.

I've used sand mixed with emulsion before for a textured paint. I used children's play sand, not builders sand which leeches colour.

Thank You Pooky, sand was my first thought but i worried it would affect the colour, I will remember that play sand is the one to use.

I love your username, Pooky was the name of Garfields teddy bear, not sure if that's where you've got it from though xx

there's not much difference between polyfiller, white grout and plaster of paris. I have used polyfiller a lot simply because I bought loads @50p rtc at T escos.

I would mix up a little portion in a mug/ empty baked bean tin or something and have a test paint tonight and see how you like it. Start with the grout. Meames has used grout for chalk paint and her stuff looks ok.
