I use little metal 'L' shaped brackets and attach the batten to the wall above :)

Sorry, I'm running around like a loon this evening! I make them more hmos way and I use a rod tape rather than rings; I used to sew rod pockets in the lining, but tape is quicker. ((ETA The other blinds I am in the process of making are for the kitchen and I have a garden path outside one of the kitchen windows so I shall probably use my older way and sew pockets in the lining for the rods as the back of the blinds will be visible from outside and it looks neater than tape.))

I used to buy rods from John Lewis, but I can only find plastic ones on there at the moment. The last ones I got were fibreglass, I've never used the plastic ones.

I have 5 blinds on my to do list but I'm only sure of the fabrics for one, so I'm procrastinating until inspiration strikes. I might make that one tomorrow - it's for the bathroom and is beach huts with a navy gingham border.
Same here for the kitchen blind plus it is my first ever go at making them.

I remember the first one I made - I went at it head on and decided that I was more than capable of sewing a rectangle of fabric and that that is all it was. It was fine! Just take each step carefully and check your measurements about 20 times, and then maybe once more just to be sure!

I read somewhere that if a window is really wide - do more than one blind. I think it was HMO who made a really wide blind - so it can be done. I think unless it is separate bay windows it would look odd having more than one at a window.

I've never made a really wide blind before, the only problem I can foresee at the moment would be bowing in the middle. I would use wooden dowels for the rods to minimise this. I think the widest I have gone was around 150cm. I would also be inclined to staple the top of the bind to the batten rather than relying solely on velcro - it's as simple as measuring the circumference of the batten and increasing the height of the blind accordingly and then stapling the excess round the batten - plenty of tutorials about to show you what I mean.

I agree that multiple blinds would look a bit odd unless there were multiple windows. :)

The reason I use blackout lining is because it doesn't need hemming and it didn't fray when you cut it plus it adds a nice weight to the blind

I'm happy today. I finally picked up my crochet hook again.
Been so busy with other projects that I neglected it.
I made a very rosy belt to go with my appliqu!d upcycled skirt that I adore.

I can't wait to try them on together.
