New bathroom blind - almost finished, I need more blind cord so it won't be hung until tomorrow when I get some!

    Front:

    Back (I used tape):

    Back under construction:

Every other pin goes all the way through and the rest only through the hem of the lining - that way I can remove the lining easily without losing the measurements.

From here, I pinned the rod tape to the lining, turned it over to check that I like the way it is folding and then removed the lining from the blind and stitched the tape in place. I then tidied up the hem of the main fabric at the back, replaced the lining and hand stitched in place so no stitching shows on the front. I then stuck the velcro to the top of the blind and hand stitched in place and inserted the rods. Obviously I shall add the cord tomorrow!

I prefer to make the front and then hand-stitch the back in place, rather than sew the sides of the front and lining together and then do the top and bottom. It takes a bit longer this way, but I still prefer it!

Sorry for the size of the pics - I am trying to adjust them in photobucket, but failing miserably! I might change the links to pinterest links as it'll make a much smaller post!

    Love the floor, florenceem. :)

that is such a pretty little blind and the hut fabric looks good edge in gingham well done

i didnt know you could just sew the rod tape to the lining i sew through both lining and main fabric.

i didnt think it would fold up if only sewed through lining, i dont have any more to make at the moment but i may be changing my daughters bedroom blinds at some point so may try that option next time.

    thanks

That's why I sew tiny little 'catch' stitches by hand across the rod tape through to the front, but really tiny invisible little stitches every few inches or so - just enough to catch the thread at the front to hold them together. The stitches take no weight at all, just pull the front to the lining to stop the gaping in between!

Thank you for the compliment about the blind - it looks very sweet up. I really wanted something not remotely feminine for the bathroom as he puts up with flowers everywhere else!

As an aside, if anyone sees about 3 metres of Cath Kidston 'Pinny' fabric, can they give me a shout pls. It's discontinued and I would really like to make some blinds out of it! I have emailed them and a ridiculously helpful man is emailing the outlet stores to see if he can find me some. He really is falling over himself to be helpful and it's very nice to see, especially as I need so little of it!

Mr F saw this chest left on the pavement up the road. I haven't seen one like this with a lift up top. Is it any good for the shabby chic treatment please?

I have a chest very similar, a bit darker. It was my granddads. I keep my old valentines cards in the top bit, he kept hankies and some ties in it.
I've always meant to paint my one but haven't done so yet.

That set of drawers is lovely, and prime for shabbying! I can think of a million uses for it!

Do you know how old it is please?
If it is not suitable for painting - the charity shop may want it. Anything is better than in landfill.

Mr F saw it when walking the dog - the chap was taking it to the tip if no one wanted it.
It was heavy and awkward to carry along the road. Two people - strangers - offered us a lift as we walked home with our treasure. They probably felt sorry for us - a couple of senior citizens lugging furniture plus dog!
