Pollyskettle - Going off tangent here but your quote, "A cat can have kittens in the oven, but that don't make them biscuits." - Mary Cooper from BBT, I first heard Spike Milligan say this and looking it up it was said by his mother, Flo Milligan in an article dated 1985?

New bathroom blind - almost finished, I need more blind cord so it won't be hung until tomorrow when I get some!

    Front:

    Back (I used tape):

    Back under construction:

    blindback.jpg

Every other pin goes all the way through and the rest only through the hem of the lining - that way I can remove the lining easily without losing the measurements.

From here, I pinned the rod tape to the lining, turned it over to check that I like the way it is folding and then removed the lining from the blind and stitched the tape in place. I then tidied up the hem of the main fabric at the back, replaced the lining and hand stitched in place so no stitching shows on the front. I then stuck the velcro to the top of the blind and hand stitched in place and inserted the rods. Obviously I shall add the cord tomorrow!

I prefer to make the front and then hand-stitch the back in place, rather than sew the sides of the front and lining together and then do the top and bottom. It takes a bit longer this way, but I still prefer it!

Sorry for the size of the pics - I am trying to adjust them in photobucket, but failing miserably! I might change the links to pinterest links as it'll make a much smaller post!

    Love the floor, florenceem. :)

I have looked at blind tape online - does anyone buy the large amounts - it works out cheaper.
I am getting confused with the different methods of making Roman blinds.
Have I got this right - your tape on lining is not attached to the front fabric in stitched lines on right side?

Thanks Pooky. It went really well in the end and looks great up - after tidying out 4 big sewing boxes, one of those concertina sewing cases, a pile of shoe boxes full of sewing stuff, a sewing table and my massive fabric cupboard I found some cord! I knew I had some somewhere. :o

    Fun day - not!
I didn't sleep well - the kitchen problem was on my mind. :(
Anyway - I have A doing the tiles as I wanted. I have agreed that S can do the painting. The job is going to take longer than 6 weeks now. E went back to the office to reschedule the other work that is lined up - not my problem. I just want my kitchen tiled by the independent chap I chose.
Then the dishwasher was unpacked - tiny dent on the front and a scratch on the side. The side will not be on show anyway. We could either insist that the company collect the dishwasher and deliver another one or ask for a price reduction.
Mr F always starts off higher than he thinks he will get. He asked for £60 off the price and got £50.
Then found the cooker hood does not come with the duct kit - it has a charcoal filter but I want an external duct. So that will be an extra - oh well - use the £50 for that.
We haven't unpacked the fridge yet - you get 10 days to check the appliances.

I buy about 50 metres at a time as it's cheaper and I will probably use it all up. I'll use about 15 metres or so on my kitchen blinds as I need three and my daughter has just informed me that she wants a blind instead of curtains in her bedroom...

I pin the lining in place onto the back of the main fabric and then pin the tape in place. I then unpin from the main fabric and sew the tape onto the lining, so no, there are no stitched lines on the front of the blind. When I sew the lining onto the main fabric I have to be careful to catch the main fabric on the front every now and again with the stitches so that the blind doesn't hang funny when it's up (the main fabric can hang away from the lining a bit if you don't secure it) but that's only a stitch every few inches and it's easy to catch the front fabric without the stitching actually being visible on the front. On a particularly wide blind, I would also catch a couple of stitches along the tape line (by hand after the blind is assembled completely) to prevent the main fabric gaping from the lining.

This is why I don't write online tutorials - I know what I mean and if you were here with me I could show you and explain it properly, but I am carp at writing it down! :o

i didnt know you could just sew the rod tape to the lining i sew through both lining and main fabric.

i didnt think it would fold up if only sewed through lining, i dont have any more to make at the moment but i may be changing my daughters bedroom blinds at some point so may try that option next time.

    thanks
