Love it - what age is the house please? You didn't go for intergrated appliances - can I ask why? I know they are expensive - look good - any problems with them? I really don't know much at all about getting a new kitchen.

I've just bumped the 'where the OS magic happens' thread for you, that's all kitchen photos!

The house is a 1930's semi. I have an integrated fridge/freezer and dishwasher which I love, but we were on a very strict budget so didn't bother replacing my washing machine with an integrated. We didn't have a fridge/freezer at all and the dishwasher was free as part of a deal with the kitchen.

As it was, this design was the cheapest quote whilst the others didn't have any integrated appliances or glass cabinets, just boring runs of cream boxes. The whole kitchen was just under £2k (trade) including the appliances and enough flooring to do the entire downstairs. H*mebase quoted us £10k

Where the beam is with the heart on, was the original kitchen wall...it was a very small, galley kitchen and I'm so glad we opened it up.

Is it the wax that's looking patchy or is it just making your paint look brushstrokey? ASCP gets thicker as you use it and you might find that adding water gives you a smoother look. The wax enhances the texture that's in the paint so it might be that. There are plenty of other waxes if it really is just the wax. I don't like ASCP much so rarely use it. I make my own or just use emulsion. I love Liberon waxes.

Thanks for your reply :0) The paint is the usual very matt finish, but when I wax it, then buff it off, some places have a slight sheen and others are still matt? I do water down the paint for the second coat, but still the same result....an Annie Sloan dealer, recommended mixing paint with wax 1-1 for the final coat, but that just turned into a gloopy mess! I will try the Liberon wax and see how that goes....

I had a little single wardrobe that I painted up and use to store coats and shoes in my hallway. Is yours the kind of shape you could do similar with? I use old suitcases to store hats and gloves on top, but you could put a big wicker basket on top if it's not too tall and use it to store towels etc in the bathroom.

  • It's not as pretty as yours Is simply a plain old wardrobe that has a flat top and a white ill fitting plastic handle
Just a thought ... Could I wallpaper the door with the sae as I have for the bedroom ?
Any idea what to do if it goes into the bathroom , which is quite small.

in a mad moment I bought this for £5 from a charity shop. It's very thin so I think it may fit in the hallway without being a nuisance. Am painting it in ASCP original white, which I thinned down by 6 teaspoons of water to less than a quarter of the tin. I've done 2 coats over primer and don't think I have enough left for the inside.

Please excuse the clutter in the last one, it was taken on a busy Sunday but it's one of my favourites!

I'm not allowed to link to posts but if you search 'kitchen' on the blog then go back a couple of pages there are a few more bits and bobs photos on there, just a bit of a funny order for some reason.

Oh man!!! I didn't know you could have bunting up all the time and it look THAT good!!!!

    Fantastic picture. I love EVERYTHING!!!

I cannot tell you how jealous I am, especially as my kitchen looks even more dark and dingy compared to that! Very nice Bibbity bob I am now following your blog. I need to blog a bit more!!.
