Myself & quite a few others locally are having problems with the Annie Sloan Clear Wax turning out very patchy...anyone use this or can recommend a better wax for over chalk paint please? Have applied lightly, more heavily, in a warmer room, with the proper wax brush, with a lint free cloth & nothing is working well! There seems to be no set advice on applying this and varies from one supplier to another...at this rate, I'm beginning to feel it would be easier to go back to primer & eggshell paint, than to continue using the chalk paint. Any help would be much appreciated :0(
Is it the wax that's looking patchy or is it just making your paint look brushstrokey? ASCP gets thicker as you use it and you might find that adding water gives you a smoother look. The wax enhances the texture that's in the paint so it might be that. There are plenty of other waxes if it really is just the wax. I don't like ASCP much so rarely use it. I make my own or just use emulsion. I love Liberon waxes.0 -
Ooh I haven't been on here in an age, so much to catch up on! I couldn't sleep this morning so ended up getting up and sewing myself a new 'faux' blind for my bathroom. It's only taken me two years to get around to!! :rotfl:0

Just finished an old oak gate leg table, pics in the usual place. Really pleased with how it's turned out. Have done a writing bureau for DD1 in the same paint, just need to pop the handles back on and will add some photos later.
I used a paint from W ick es that's a chalk finish, it's a strange colour, almost pale duck egg on the chart but more of a grey/green in certain lights. It goes on well and I've given the table a quick coat of beeswax just to protect the paint.....will see how it holds up. The bureau will look very shabby very quickly knowing DD but that's the whole idea, a freecycle bureau made into something pretty to hide the clutter!Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Thanks - I may have made it upI just wanted the look of a roman blind without the faff of actually making one as the window is already frosted glass.
I had a read of your blog - saw kitchen work photos - did you post completed kitchen photos? Is there a thread about kitchens on MSE? I keep changing my mind about what I want in my new one.
I'm sure I have photos somewhere - will dig one out for you! There used to be a fab shabby chic kitchens thread somewhere around here, will have a search and see if I can find it...0 -
I am desperate for a new kitchen - it is the original one here when house was built - 1974!Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Please excuse the clutter in the last one, it was taken on a busy Sunday but it's one of my favourites!
I'm not allowed to link to posts but if you search 'kitchen' on the blog then go back a couple of pages there are a few more bits and bobs photos on there, just a bit of a funny order for some reason.0 -
