bambooplantstand.jpg&action=rotate&degree=0&r=0.9097736314862272This is a bamboo plant stand I painted in A S chalk paint. I couldn't decide on wax or varnish so have done neither yet. The giant candlestick thingy is one of a pair I bought in a charity shop. I gave it two coats of chalk paint, one clear wax, one dark wax then one more chalk paint and one more clear wax. ( husband didn't like the dark wax effect as I'd gone overboard)

    Debt-free and Proud!
I came on here for great advice a couple of months ago and just wanted to update on my finished dressing table,

I used Mod Podge in the drawers and it was perfect. Most of them are lined with wallpaper samples, and some with wrapping paper. Wallpaper was easier to work with.

    Thanks for all the advice.
Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.

Can I ask for some advice please?
I've had the side of my bath cladded in a very pale wood & a new pine cupboard made. As it's the bathroom, the wood need some protection, but I like the pale look. Can you suggest how & can achieve a "whitewashed" look, would it be watered down white emulsion? Also, do you think it would then need varnish on top? I've seen some lovely things on here, so am sure someone will know.

Yes! I've done this with gloss white paint and white spirit to dilute. I'd recommend this for a bath panel as it's going to be more water resistant than watered down emulsion. But your choice really. If you do use emulsion it will need further protection with varnish!
The recipe I used was 1 part gloss white to 3 parts white spirit, mixing up well.
You want to brush it on down the whole of the plank, no stops and starts, and wipe off with a clean lint free cotton rag until you're happy with the look. Test an inconspicuous area first.
It looks lovely, much nicer than orange pine. Kind of scandinavian!

    I've been Money Tipped!
I wonder if any of you can help me. I have a small brown wood dresser with some very complicated fret work that i am thinking of painting. It has mirrors sections, and some areas picked out in gold, but otherwise is an uninspriing mid brown colour. I think it might make an unusual bathroom cupboard if painted a paler colour (i already have the rop secron leaning against the upstairs wall.

Normally i would paint it with a brush and some farrow and ball paint, but the fret work will be tantamount to impossible (its a nightmare to keep clean too...dust cannot be reached in many places) so i am guessing i should consider spray paint. I am a bit dubious about this, mainly because of the amount of masking i will have to do and my very bad techniche the only time i have tried before. Will i need to prepare it in anyway? Any one got any better ideas?

lostinrates, would you be able to post a photo so we could see better what you mean?

Here is a shabbychic makeover on my rag doll. She's got a new outfit and a box to sit in, this was used as all sorts over the years and latterly had plants in....but it was destined for a more refined use!
