    Hi

I've seen something somewhere on this site (I'm sure) about a wonder primer that makes painting any sort of furniture really easy, sorts out old varnish/finishes/paint without you having to sand it all down first. Just slap on a coat of this primer and move straight to painting. Does any one else know what I'm on about and can point me towards it?
    Thank you :-)

Could it be Zinsser 1 2 3 Water Based Primer, it is a little more expensive than the normal primers, but very good! I got mine from eBay, it was £22.73 + £6.95 p&p for 2.5 litres, and it was delivered the next day :)

If that's not the one, I'm sure someone else will be along shortly to offer an alternative.

Definately Zinsser 123. It was me raving on about it! It's much cheaper if you have a stockist near you. Have a google!

I haven't posted on this thread before, but read it avidly and have picked up many tips from you all, thank you :).

I thought I'd show you the little chair I have just upcycled. I bought it from an auction for £3.00, it was a very sad and battered plain wooden child's chair complete with signs of old woodworm.

I painted it with 2 coats of Annie Sloan paint, then waxed it. It still looked a little bit plain, so I attempted to brighten it up a bit with some roses painted in acrylic paint. I'm pleased with the end result, but wish I could get the hang of painting leaves! I just have to varnish over the artwork and it's finished.

Well done you - the chair is gorgeous

Chris; A chazza mirror is a mirror bought in a charity shop!

Debt-free-chick; Depending on the finish of your object emulsion might work. Often it doesn't key into the underneath paint properly. A liquid sandpaper (I use ESP, available from decorating shops and big stores) saves all that arm ache with sandpaper, as all you do is wipe it on and then wipe it off. Brilliant stuff!

MissMilly; that is a cute little chair. I bet it will be well used.

Chalkysoil; Swoon at that bureau. It's going to look fab when you've done a makeover on it.

    .
    :rotfl:aah, makes sense now.
I initially thought it was a style as people were talking about the brown item (display cupboard?) that looks like a mirror (or that I thought was a tray :D ) then somebody refered to the sunburst as a chazza mirror. I was lost. I even searched for it & these posts came up :)
    Thank you pennib
