i made this for my office its ikea fabric, red, taupe and white
    office_romanblind-300x221.jpg

but didnt think it had enough umph for the kitchen

ive also bought some of this recently from ikea too

    red_tissuebox-208x300.jpg

its a deeper red in real life.

may be this is my problem i am no good a putting the finishing touches together.

also because i have so many big draw base cabinets and now wall cupboards everything is put away so i have nothing on show except a silver toaster and kettle, which are only about 1yr old from our prvious house.

so i think its going to have to be done with teatowels, oven gloves and a roman blind and then as someone has said maybe hearts and a few accessories.

maybe i should be thinking brown/taupe/white instead of red?

Red would go with the brown taupe and white! I've only gone for those colours because DH won't use an oven glove so stains all of my lovely tea towels so now I try to get darker ones or patterned ones :p

hmo if you don't fancy red then with all the browny colours I'd go for pale blue/aqua with a few bits of yellow, or indeed red. Green would look good too, you could use any shade, maybe mainly very pale with smaller bits of dark.
If you have a picture (or a suitable bit of wall for one), you can use colours from that to tie it all together, or paint the frame to set the scene:)

not strictly shabby but just a bit of advice.

I have a really small galley kitchen, there are plenty of cupboards but they are all full, unfortunatley I need to empty at least one for the lodger to move in. there is a gap between the cabinets and the door of about 45cm and 35cm deep. curently houses a small bin and a standard lamp. I thought perhaps one of the thin billy bookcases (40cm x 28cm) could go there and shabby it up with the pasta jars and cereal and bread bin. BUt what to do with the bin. It could go in front - but yuk??? I recycle so the only thing that goes in the bin is cooked food waste (when the dog turns his nose up) and plastic wrapping that can't be recycled.

    the gap

IMG421.jpg sorry needed to wash the dishes! its not normally that messy!

    Would this look too crowded?

I am also looking for a thin wardrobe too - I had some of the anedoba(?) ikea range in birch years ago. the people I bought the house off left this type of furniture too. One wardrobe and two cupboards as well as the bedside cabinets and chest of drawers. Now the only seem to do it in white. I moved my wardrobe into that room because I had a cupboard over the stairs buut am I missing that space! I don't want to have to buy all new wardrobes because I can't fit the wardrobe and one cupboard in the lodger room (thats what fitted in my gap. I can't seem to find one that will let me fit a wardrobe and a one of the thin cupboards in that room.

I have cheked and the thin cupboard would stick out in the space in the kitchen!

would the bin not stand on the bottom shelf of the billy? or do you need the space for something else

I've got a bin that hangs inside the door under the sink so no floor space needed. Mine's a rigid plastic one from Ikea but they don't seem to do them any more. This is all I found from a quick google but there may be someone who knows where to buy others.

I don't know why I can't get link to work
