I've got a bin that hangs inside the door under the sink so no floor space needed. Mine's a rigid plastic one from Ikea but they don't seem to do them any more. This is all I found from a quick google but there may be someone who knows where to buy others.

I don't know why I can't get link to work

    Try this.

    Lakeland do them.

Lakeland (and JL and other places) sell the SimpleHuman brand bin that fits inside the kitchen cupboard. Be aware that it is large and deep so you need a full size undersink cupboard, ideally with no shelf behind the door. Also, as the bin is of good sturdy quality, the fixings are quite substantial. In my basic range kitchen, I had to position the bin very high to avoid the shelf, and the screws went through to pierce the front of my (thin particleboard) cupboard door.

I consequently had to fill a small hole in the door when I recently repainted my kitchen cupboards, and I have replaced it with a smaller, flimsier, carrier bag type bin from Betterware. I gave my SimpleHuman bin to someone with a posher kitchen... :D

    Hi
I just got this mirror and need some advice as to what to put on it!! I have bought a rose pink garland to go round it but just not sure what bits i should have on it!

It's so lovely you don't want to clutter it. Maybe some really special figurines on the small shelves, that reflect back into the room. The small shelves look as though they're mirror backed, so I would put a few matching items that would look good reflected - if you see what I mean.
I'm envious...don't rush into it, take your time and use a few well chosen items because of the joy they give you or because you can link colours with the rest of the decor (hopefully both).
If you're still stuck - send it to me :rotfl:!
    Normal people worry me.

The top two side shelves I'd consider putting candlesticks on them - the mirrors will reflect the candles so you get two for the price of one! :money: :rotfl: Try and get ones so the top of your chosen candles aren't taller than the top of the mirrors. I wouldn't do this on the lower side shelves as there would be a danger of the upper shelves getting too hot from the candle flames. Not sure what your garland is like, but bear in mind that might be a fire hazard too. Oh well, it was just a thought! :o

    Lovely overmantel - am envious!

I've just finished reading this thread!

You've inspired me to get back in to sorting my house, I have done up several pieces in the past but having spent the last 18 months planning my wedding the house hasn't moved forward!

I'm on the lookout for a bookcase/ dresser/ cabinet thingy for the dining room and a rocking chair for oh.

I've been looking at ebay but there's not much in our area so I'll have to keep looking!

I bought a fireplace, mdf oak veneer or similar, and am trying to make it taller, bigger, chunkier, & shabby or vintage or something. We went to B&Q looking at sheets of mdf to make a back to it, and it was really expensive. Came home, and I convinced hubby to unpack some left over laminate boards and click them together. Have just put a coat of primer over the back of them and am hoping it'll do for the back once it's screwed in to the frame and painted properly.
I haven't got a camera but the fireplace is kind of like this one

and the fire that it's for is one of these

so I'm sitting here watching the primer dry on the fire surround now. It looks miles better already!

I've dragged it in to position to see if I'm on the right track. The fire surround is balanced on tins of baked beans as I want it taller than it is. Hubby has just got in and is quite pleased with the undercoat and hopefully will make legs, sides, hearth for it. Can't do any more until he does that for me.

here's a pic of the fire on it's own ( at the back of the room, in the front is a pile of garden furniture just arrived from Tesco !! Not usually there...)

I love your table Uropachild. I have a similar one to do but can't quite face the job at the moment.

I went shopping and accidentally bought this.

It was a total bargain (less than a tenner) I'm thinking I will splash out on some Annie Sloan chalk paint for it and the wax. Firstly because it was as cheap as chips and secondly because I can't be bothered to sand all those fiddly bits. I can't decide if to paint the top or leave it as is. What would you do?

    OMG
That is fab.. & a tenner ! :D Where do you find bargains like that?

I think I would wax the top .
That will look lush when its done !
  • Hi everyone :j

At the risk of sounding daft, I wondered if anyone would be able to help me. At the moment I have a TV stand and a small sideboard that I would like to have a go at making nice and shabby :D The only problem is that it isn't real wood it's like thick mdf with some kind of veneer over the top and I know for a fact it wouldn't survive a sanding! Is there anything I can do with it, or is it a lost cause?

    :)
    on a mission !!! :j

get some ESP - it can even be used on glass or mirror surface - it is wonderful stuff - no need to prime anything - I had to send off to USA but it was well worth it - will see if I can find a link
