ahhhh - could kill hubby - I got my 50's kitchen cabinet and have decided not to repaint it as I love the authentic distressed finish and colour it is. He suggested cleaning it with Mr Muscle as he uses this when restoring arcade games - sprayed it on the peppermint green paints work and it now has a huge flurescent yellow stain. Stopped as soon as I realised and used washing up liquid but its stillhere - any tips on what if anything I can do????
Could you maybe sand it down and make it a little more distressed? Then give hubby a smack round the ear!
    Normal people worry me.
  • Plan B. Buy a couple of emulsion tester pots in a different colour (maybe off white), sand down the offending panel/edge/whatever and paint in new colour (all edges/ panels etc). Sand edges where it would wear anyway to get back the "shabby chic" look, wax with furniture polish.
    Hope I've explained that OK!
Obviously, the smack round the ear'ole for hubby remains.

I actually made these to try and sell, but it's not going well as i've had no interest so I may end up keeping them... that'd be such a tragedy! (note:sarcasm, I WANT to keep them lol)

they began with a pair of these:

£1.50 from the jumble. with a little ingenuity, some paint, alexander henry fabric and some trim I had given to me about 3 years ago, voila!

I hope this thread's not just for homewares, 'cos I'm proud of this recycled backpack too lol.
recently my daughter needed a backpack for a school trip. I had no spare cash having spent it on the trip lol so I took some of the old covering we used to have on the dining chairs, and an offcut of funky paisley and made her this:

and here's a chest of drawers. It was on the street corner when I was walking my daughter home from school. it had a "free" sign on it, so I thought hells yes! checked the height and knew it'd be right for my sewing gubbins. tried carrying it home myself which didn't work too well but thankfully about halfway home, one of my neighbours was coming the other way and offered a hand.

I got it home and the husband was disgusted, black ash? ewww!!

3 coats of melamine paint left over form the ktichen and it was looking better. here it is partway through (and the tray I used to pour paint out was actually the back of our old washer lol)

and finally once finished I dres a tree on it in permenant marker and added some vinyl decals which I'd got left over from another projects. once finished, even the hideous handles looked better!

it lives under my sewing table. 2 years on and it's slightly chipped, but that's adding to the charm in my humble opinion.

    in situ:

Just had to call in and say what a super job you'd done. I particularly liked the cabinet, so effective and clever to 'find' one that fitted so perfectly under the table. When are you planning to paint your Ikea stool?;):D

I'm not hahaha. if I leave it as plain wood, when it gets stained I can just sand it and wax it again lol.... I'm 4ft 8 so the stool follows me around the house hahahaha!

Hello everyone! This is my first post on here - I'm ploughing through the thread slowly and I love your pictures!!

I have a question, if anyone can help - I have a cross stich that I did years ago, all pastels colours, and I never got round to doing anything with it! I always planned to make it into a cushion, but instead, I would like to frame it. Do you think I should edge it before I put it in a frame? Or just cut it to the right size and put in? I'd be grateful for your thoughts!!

I love SC, though my husband keeps telling me off for buying what he calls 'chintz and frou frou'!!!!! We are redoing our kitchen - moving it into a new extension to the dining room so 'new' but reusing our current maple units to save (lots!) of money and I'm going to enjoy SC-ing it to go with my purple le crueset which is my pride and joy!

Hope everyone is having a good day! xx
