I love your table Uropachild. I have a similar one to do but can't quite face the job at the moment.
I went shopping and accidentally bought this.
It was a total bargain (less than a tenner) I'm thinking I will splash out on some Annie Sloan chalk paint for it and the wax. Firstly because it was as cheap as chips and secondly because I can't be bothered to sand all those fiddly bits. I can't decide if to paint the top or leave it as is. What would you do?There are many things in life that will catch your eye, only a few will catch your heart. Pursue those.0 -
OMG chika that is amazing!!! How on earth did you manage to bag that for less than a tenner??? I don't know what i'd do about the top either... Those handles are gorgeous though.Sarah.

wow Chika. That is beautiful. What an absolute bargain. I personally would leave the top. Would paint the rest possibly Annie Sloan Paris grey and then dark wax the embellisments.
edited to add. actually check out the colour of this unit. It is beautiful. Thought about it as soon as I saw your unit.

I've been teaching my lovely son the thrill of shabby chic'ing/distressing. Here is his first effort. Think he made quite a good job. Bought it cheap of auction site and it was a horrible orangey pine. Rubbed down, undercoated and Farrow and Ball'd. He is doing a coffee table this weekend in Annie Sloan. :j0

morning all i have this clock it was bought as a present a long time ago our new house is modern, white with light oak furniture and this just stands out like a sore thumb:)
but i love to hear it chime, could it be painted and if so has anyone done one they can show me.
my other dilemma is the gold numerals and chime i would have to keep those so if i painted it white would it look to stark against the gold, or do i go bold and paint it say red?
what do you think0 -
hmo, I would paint it cream and add gold leaf or gold rub around the intricate bits, eg around the top and sides to complement the gold chime.0

Melamine Question?
Ladies - I have been given a small, white melamine chest of drawers which I'd like to turn into a Star Wars chest of draws for my eldest. I did a good job on an Ikea wooden box last year for storing bits and bobs but wanted to do one to match. Has anyone done any decoupage on a melamine surface? does it work with PVA glue or do I need to try and sand it before hand to give it something to stick to? I intend to cover the whole surface with the same paper I used for the box so they match in. Any experiences?0 -
ahhhh - could kill hubby - I got my 50's kitchen cabinet and have decided not to repaint it as I love the authentic distressed finish and colour it is. He suggested cleaning it with Mr Muscle as he uses this when restoring arcade games - sprayed it on the peppermint green paints work and it now has a huge flurescent yellow stain. Stopped as soon as I realised and used washing up liquid but its stillhere - any tips on what if anything I can do????People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.
