Sorry irishgirl, I didn't make clear that I'm not going to buy one :o. They sell them near to me but they are to low anyway as I'm tall and they'd be even shorter going up the hill. IT would actually be worse for my back than carrying shopping bags.

    Hi all,

I've just started recovering some dining chairs with oilcloth and I thought it might be nice to have a tablecloth to match...

Does anyone use an oilcloth as a table cloth? If so, did you just cut it to size and that's it?

I wondered if anyone has a pic of their table with an oilcloth on? I'm bot sure how it would hang...

    Thanks,

    Kevin x

I can't take a pic right now, but mine currently has an oilcloth that is draped with a 15cm overhang all round, just as a fabric cloth would be.

google images has examples, here: http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=oilcloth+tablecloth&hl=en&prmd=ivns&source=lnms&tbm=isch&ei=CBcFTu-0CsSxhAePs5m_DQ&sa=X&oi=mode_link&ct=mode&cd=2&ved=0CE4Q_AUoAQ&biw=1024&bih=485

I have also seen them done with the oilcloth pulled taut and stapled to the underside of the tabletop and am thinking of doing this next. Both look good, IMO.

    Eg, here: http://www.allaboutyou.com/craft/making/transform-a-wooden-kitchen-table-cover-an-oilcloth-53353

Be aware that although they are wipe clean, they do get marked easily eg, by splashes of hot tomato sauces, pen marks etc, - not all marks will wipe off, so you might find you need to change the tablecloth long before the seat covers, which will affect the matchiness, in the longer term. :)

    Thanks annie-c.

I really like the look of the stapled ones but the table is extendable so I'd have to do each half seperately and I'm not sure how well it would still join if there were two layers of cloth in the way?

Well I managed to cover the two halves of the table separately and they still fit together, kind of! I thought I would give you a sneak preview although only 1 of the chairs is done ATM! Table is painted with Crown Period Parsonage Creme and the chair is f&b green cooking apple.

    Hope you like!

Absolutely gutted Kev, that table looks great. We bought a set of 6 teak chairs from a charity shop and left the table behind because it had a gouge in it. We didnt need the table indoors but thinking about it now we could have done what you did and used it outside. Never mind, will keep an eye out for a cheap damaged table, thanks for posting.

Yep it's stapled. Not with the dunelm mill staple gun, that was pants and went straight back to the shop. I got a heavy duty staple gun from Homebase.

Tiff, I know the table looks like it's outside but it's actually in the conservatory :)

    Thanks for the kind words.

Ive often looked on this thread, as I love all the pics for inspiration! Thank you!
Anyway, I was in primark today and unexpectedly I saw some really lovely wrapping paper and thought of this thread!

It would look lovely lining shabby chic drawers, or any other SC craft!

It looks like patchwork, with pretty blue, yellow, pink and green patterned/flowered squares. I cant find an image on google, and im hopeless as uploading photos!

    Its £1 for a big roll, (8 or 10 meters I think)

They also had some rolls of blue with white spots and pink with white spots which also looked a bit SC..so if you are needing some MSE wrap for a project it might just be worth having a look in primark!
