It has sweet little pink rose buds on it :D I also got some mugs from Morrisons for 98p each (left over mothers day gifts) I just love the tins they come in :D better pics on my blog:D

    That's so pretty.

Did anyone see 'Put your Money where your Mouth is' yesterday? They found a very pretty flower thing in a Paris flea market. It had been converted into a lamp but they took out the electrics so it could be used with a candle and sprayed it white. It was sold to a guy who wanted it converted back to an electric lamp!

First post on this thread so sorry if I don't get it right:)
I love shabby chic stuff and didn't even know that there was a thread dedicated to this. :(
Just put up my new curtains (made from 1.00 per metre material I spotted on the grabbit last year) and need hold backs. I have been trying to think of a way to make cream shabby chic holdbacks, you know the kind that the curtain just sits at the side. Normally it sits out about 6 inches from the wall with a decorative front. Is this the right place to ask if anyone creative out there has any suggestions?
Can't wait to go back and read through the whole thread, but that might take me some time:) TIA

    Welcome to the thread!:)

I think what you are looking for are curtain holdbacks and I can't think of a way to make them, I would probably just google to find the cheapest ones I liked. Eg: http://www.dunelm-mill.com/shop/spiral-curtain-holdbacks-50456

Thought I'd ask this question of you lovely peeps here before I clutter up the boards with a new thread. Not entirely chic (though definitely shabby), my dining chair covers are getting very worn through and it's starting to make the foam disintegrate so i need to recover them before they get to the point of needing new foam too.
What I would like to know is... can I just use one of those cheap vinyl tablecloths? (Wipe clean!) I have worked out that I will need one around 72" X 52" to get 6 pieces the size I need (fairly standard give or take a few inches) so I can get one for less than £15, a lot cheaper than buying fabric. Then all I will need is scissors and to borrow my Dad's staple gun. This seems far too easy and cheap, can someone please point out obvious/not so obvious reasons why it won't work?

I have done this and it is cheaper usually to buy the vinyl fabric off the roll from Dunelm or similar than to buy a ready made tablecloth. I did 4 dining chairs with 1 metre.

It is much thinner than 'upholstery' vinyl and so the shop warned it might not last as long. Also the paler colours do stain if you drop tomato based sauces or ink on them (just something to think about if little kids are around!). However, I did mine about 6 months ago and they still look fab and are so much easier to keep clean than fabric covers!

Edited to add: it is a good idea to go to a bricks and mortar shop to have a look before buying. The better quality oilcloth has a woven fabric backing, which makes it a little thicker and easier to stretch over the cushions. There is also a cheaper version which has a more papery backing which is less suitable for this sort of project - it creases easily and feels thinner. I bought some of the cheaper stuff for £1 a metre in a sale and struggled to find a use for it, though it is now providing very cheerful lining for my dresser shelves. :)

Thanks for the heads up! I love Emma Bridgewater!

Has anyone managed to buy any of these items? I'm after the rather gorgeous hearts shopping bag but can't get through the checkout.

Thanks Annie, I will definitely get the flannel backed type then, I already ruled out pale colours for the reason you said! My chairs are very wide and a funny shape to normal dining chairs so it will take more fabric than just a meter, I have been to our dunhelm but they don't have a huge range (also went to The range and same prob!) which is why I am looking online. Will be sure to get decent thick stuff now though, I had thought it would be too stiff so thanks for the tip.

    ooh found another one!

    and another

This is the problem with me and projects, I will spend hours on ebay looking for the right fabric, there will be too many to choose from I'll never decide then I will forget all about it until the seats totally fall apart!

I am also worried about getting something too bright as what's on there now is quite dull/muted colours and pattern. ooh I hate making home defining decisions! I feel like if I choose one and it looks terrible I'll have ruined the whole room, which is sill cos it's not great anyway! How do you shabby chic-ers cope with all the choices!

    Hi elegant

I have not bought anything myself. It let me put one in the basket and get delivery to store for free but I didn't put in payment details. Website is slow but gets there in the end.

Don't forget 10% quidco and free delivery if you spend over £15
