I had no problems with the system and have popped over a few times now, I found the sign posts were very clear and esy to understand - but it is clear you have some literacy issues so I apologise if thats the reson you failed to get it right.
Im not really sure they can do much more to help the ...erm.. less... erm... 'sharp' members of society.
Youd get more sympathy if your post was not so xenophobic (although not much more to be fair).
christ, for someone who purports to be English, you don't speak the country's language very well.
Can I get a refund on my tax? - Your school didn't do a very good job....
:rotfl: :rotfl:How to make life simple
Abolish these ruddy tolls or reduce the cost.
We pay enough road tax already
Road tax is just that, a tax to be on the road. The toll charges however go on maintaining the bridge. If they didn't charge tolls, they'd have to find the money for repairs from somewhere else. This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0 -
Damn...I read this and got to page 3 before I'd realised how old it was. Seems to be a spate of newbies dragging up ancient threads lately. Still...trying to make sense of the OP made me realise that while I'm off work poorly there are people with a hell of a lot more problems than me lol0

Just to clear something up:
The reason you pay going into Wales and not out isn't anything to do with the fact that you're going into Wales and should therefore pay for the privilege, it's more to do with the fact that most people going one way over the bridge, unless they are moving house, crash and die, or come the long way home, will more than likely come back over the same bridge in the opposite direction. Instead of holding up traffic both ways and charging everyone a small fee, it's far more efficient to just hold-up the traffic going one-way and effectively charge them for both directional use of the bridge. Reduced staff costs, reduced stopping-and-starting on both sides etc etc.
And as for not accepting card? Well, that's kind of understandable. Firstly, they get a small charge for every card used. Sometimes it's as much as 50pence/transaction so of a fee of a few pounds that's a huge percentage. Also, there are always idiots who forget their PIN, their card declines, or they just spend ages typing in their PIN and it really holds everything up by a huge amount.
Now if only they put signs up in advance warning us we can only pay cash...0 -
I'll hold my hands up to believing that in 2011 it does seem a bit backward that debit cards are not accepted as payment to use the Severn bridges. They temporarily enabled card-payment during the Ryder Cup when it was held at the Celtic Manor in Newport so it isn't an unprecedented move.:cool:0

OK guys, don't shoot me down for being a newbie. Firstly, I am sorry if I dragged up an old post, secondly I didn't see the date, lesson learnt. I have an interest in Welsh culture as I am currently doing my masters which involves Welsh history (which before anyone says any more, no I realise I won't find anything here related to what I am studying) I was just browsing and stopping on threads which caught my eye. On the up side, its got a little networking done here
I promise to be more careful in the future.0 -
I wouldn't let it worry you, plenty of newbies do this. It doesn't do any harm, just annoys some people more than others.:cool:0

I know it's an old thread, but when I read the OP, due to the grammar, I read it in Captain Kirk's voice. Made it quite entertaining.0

Now its been dragged up(and I confess to reading several posts before realising this) then even if OP should have had some money in his pocket and over-reacted when he did not it is absurd that the bridge(and any other bridge or tunnel requiring a toll) does not take plastic. As others have said it does not have to be slow and if it was possible during the time of the Ryder Cup why on earth would anyone wish to stop the method?0
