point out a REAL shortfall of Wales

Options
TO WHOM it may concern ... ... we like to ...point out a REAL shortfall of Wales .....and travelling to it ... as a GB -travelling - tourist

We recently arrived from ENGLAND ... and X-ssed the Severn Bridge ... being greeted 'by Welcome to Wales' sign

::: BUT this was the end of 'lustig' .. Seemingly Wales has NOT arrived in the 21 century .. In fact HINTERWAELDLER approach rules.

Customer service is hostile and outright AWFUL ... sums it up ..TRY it ... once yourself

. You arrive 'in Wales' and have to pay -seemingly for ENTRY ..in CASH ... and ONLY<cash .. no Credit Card no Bank Card ... . Just CASH ../ If no CASH avail ... no

You will be charged ... YOU have to X the bridge again .. to 'find a cash machine'... somewhere in ENGLAND

...Which we did ... so after 1,5 hours drive and search around Avonmouth and altogether 3 (THREE..) Xssings of the bridge ,,, entry was permitted - after 'hand over' of cash ...

..wasn’t the toll supposed to pay for the (use = Xssing ..) of the bridge ...??

HOW ABOUT MAKING your cloud FELT ::: BY INSTALLING A CASH MACHINE :::

next to the staff loo ... might be a good place ...
or make them accept a credit card ... / are you really living in the DARK AGES and can tolerate this kind of ignorance from YOUR preferred and selectively ? Chosen! 'Service Provider'??

KING ARTHUR will not be back ... get to grips with life ... and streamline everyone’s life

... Even regular users --- would rather pay via their banking card ... THAN having to pay a CASH TOLL .. Each 'entry' into the forbidden empire...

To an outside observer this seems extremely and intended - waste of resources, Time, Petrol - resulting in high EXTRA CO-emissions, and not to mention the 24 h staffing … extending the lease for the Concessionaire for many years … as anyone who can work a calculator .. will figure out easy, this being ignored …. since 1992 !??!!

JUST look @ a French HIGHWAY TOLL system ...may be you could 'learn/copy' a lot ... OR ... have a paid trip for the WELSH ASSEMBLY -- ALL OF THEM pref .. :-)) ...to eyewitness ... 'THE WORLD out there'

To the best of my knowledge, the bridge was built and is being operated by a French company, this has nothing to do with the Welsh Assembly.

There are plenty of other routes into Wales that are free, the M50 etc

I find the staff helpfull if not a little stressed after people being rude to them.

Regular users can, as I do use a TAG system. this is a plastic device stuck on my windscreen, which is recognised by a sensor at the barrier. I am then billed at the end of the month for my crossings.

Hope you had a great holiday

I've always found the staff friendly. https://www.severnbridge.co.uk/index.shtml
This site will let you know the current status of the bridge and the toll prices.
    Tesco: £1361.19, Vanquis: £2644.73, Very: £563.08, Next: £1636.95, M&S: £1049.92. As of 5th February 2024. Slava Ukraini

Why are you judging the whole of Wales on one point of entry?

As others have said... there are plenty of other routes into wales if you dont want to pay for the bridge. It would simply not be cost or time efficient to take cards on a toll road (imagine it at rush hour with everyone getting their amex out). There are plenty of warnings both that there is a toll and what the toll is... if you continue along the road without the money who do you have to blame?

    heather+tom,

Maybe read some of the many signs on the approach to the bridge informing you that it's cash only.

    Ignorance is no excuse.

The M6 toll road (my geography is not very good so I might have the wrong motorway name) takes cash and cards and it seems to work very well, with cash only lanes available to help things along.

If I remember correctly you only pay going IN to Wales, not coming out into England. I believe this to be fundamentally flawed. If it was the other way round they could easily put the toll up to seven quid with very few complaints. Drivers would be so relieved to be getting out they wouldn't worry about the cost.
