Prove the ipod is the 11 year olds to start with, prove that they gave it to the wrong person? With no Ipod it will be very hard!pulliptears wrote: »Proving it was the boys is easy as itunes thoughtfully remembers the serial number of any ipod/iphone it connects with.
Well I agree but as in my first post about this I did mention 'with no Ipod...' you threw me stating this would be easy. Of course it is easy once the Ipod is found but I did make the point of it not being found. The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

I fully realise this and appreciate it. I am quite shocked that the police are not willing to take an interest in this case as they clearly should. It is hardly a case of I lost it somewhere on a night out when drunk or I left it on a restaurant table. Somebody used deceit and a ploy to falsely appear to have ownership of somebody else's property.0 -
What a weird thread...Op has an 11yo child that has basically been "robbed" of £150 worth of equipment (Albeit caused by his own negligence) and some of you are saying why has he got....blah blah blah. Stop being so bloody minded and downright jealous people. An adult has just robbed a child here...indirectly but still the fact remains she has obtained the goods dishonestly.
OP - Go to the police station either yourself or with your son alongside you. If front desk try to fob you off ask to see/make appointment with the Chief Inspector....As your son is being treated very poorly..Probably because he's 11yo...But it shouldn't matter his age. I would hate to think what attitude kids will have of the police force if this was the "norm". They are going to grow up with zero respect for them that's what !!!
Sounds to me like the JJB sports shop know the woman in question and it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if it turns out to be a relative of one of the store's employee's. I would be onto the Sun,Local Paper and Chief Inspector......I wonder if they would have been so lax about it if it were a £150 pair of trainers they seen her stealing on CCTV...would they have tried to trace her through her CC details then .....hmm this stinks op....Please take action and come back and let us all know that you got a result.0 -

CCTV and statements from the JJB staff working that day?0 -
I don't think it is just you, but equally there are a lot of people who do either by neccessity or choice carry expensive items with them. My girlfriend takes her ipod with her everywhere, however, she has the right to do this without being judged if she was to lose it.
I would only be concerned by this if your GF like the OPs son was a child. As she is an adult it's her look out like my gear is mine. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

The child in the OPs post is 11 years old. Is the average 11 year old much less responsible than an adult with an ipod? I don't see why, 11 year olds go to high school, at that age I think they should be competent in looking after a item like an ipod, barring the odd mistake.0 -
A lot of people have been claiming that JJB have not done anything wrong legally, by giving the property to the woman.
That is incorrect.
It could well be that they have committed a tort of conversion.
This is a civil wrong where one person (i.e. JJB) treat the property of another in a manner inconsistent with their ownership rights.
And giving something away which does not belong to them is included.
Also the tort is one of strict liability so JJB's ignorance of the true owner or store policies they may or may not have is largely irrelevant.
I would recommened seeking legal advice to make a claim against the store. At the very least you may find the store suddenly being much more helpful if you mention it, as they would not want to have to compensate you for the alleged breach of tort.0 -
I think an 11 year old should be responsible enough to leave it at home while out shopping with someone else. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

I like this, but how easy is it to prove in this case? The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett
