  • Wow, I keep spotting threads like this where people just *can't* let it go. It's the forum equivalent of watching two stubborn old dogs fighting over a rag (or ball). Still, I guess all of the one-upmanship is saving you money while you're at home on the internet and away from the shops..

  • Thanks for the pint, but I would still punt it back over, like I said earlier. That normally gets a errrr, Thanks Mister where I live.

Mind ours normally fire them rubber rockets things round our parish, and they can go a long way. Died down a bit now though, as I think the novelty has worn off a bit going roun dthe houses to look for things!

You mentioned if it happended upteen times, we are fortunate where we live as the kids have two good patches of rouigh grass to play on, they lose their balls round there instead.

In the end it is all due to courtesy, and if you do not ask, you do not get!

a stupid kid left something behind and its gone.
    live. and. learn.

Disregarding those people who seem to be arguing amongst themselves about balls on neighbouring property, coats belonging to scouts and flytipping etc, I think most people haven't missed the point.

I agree the child may have been careless (unfair IMHO to refer to him as 'stupid') and the parent possibly naive by not making sure his son didn't have anything of value on him before they left for the shops but the point is that an ipod was lost, found in the shop by JJB staff then STOLEN by some scumbag chancer who just happened to overhear a conversation between 2 JJB staff.

I'm sure if the boy had just left his ipod in a shop and somebody had picked it up before the lad & his Dad went back to the shop, the OP wouldn't have posted.
How many people don't grasp the concept that it's NOT the fact that somebody walked off with this ipod - it's that it was handed in and JJB just handed it over to the first person who asked about it?

Oh Sandoval, a reply in under 3 minutes? You must be saving an absolute fortune just sitting around and trolling all day. I spotted one of your little 'debates' the other day and, frankly, I was surprised at the amount satisfaction you get from what can only be described as blatant school yard bullying.

My grandson is NOT stupid. He will learn from this experience but don't you dare call him stupid!

No pulliptears, I haven't yet because it's my son who originally went to them and he's away at the moment. He'll be home at the weekend so I'll show him the good advice I've had on here from helpful people like you.

He will certainly want to take the matter as far as possible now because it does look as if he should object to the police view that he's wasting their time.

A crime was in fact committed by the woman and I don't know who is to blame for all this but somebody should be accountable.

I know my grandson was careless - he turned 11 just 3 weeks ago and kids his age often are scatterbrained - but it's the adults involved that have annoyed me as they apparently couldn't care less. What lesson does that teach the boy?

Before he goes back tell him to retrieve the serial number from the computer of the stolen ipod. Perhaps if the police think there is a chance of proving the theft they will take it more seriously? He will need to go to the computer your grandson used to update the ipod with and do the following:
    MAC- Look here:
    \Documents and Settings\<userName>\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPodDevices
    PC- C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
  • zaksmum, have you thought about trying to get your local paper interested? They love these kinds of stories, with a picture of the child looking crestfallen. You might even get some kind-hearted individual or shrewd local business to give your Grandson a new ipod. Give them a ring! Most local rags have a phone number on their web site to call with a story. I really think this is your best bet. Agree with sending a letter to the Chief Constable also.

Amazing the number of people on this thread who think petty theft is acceptable. Including OP's local police force.
Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.
