That's an incredibly sad comment on today's society.
And, based on what I would do and the comments made by some other posters, it's not necessarily true.
I've handed in at least 3 mobile phones I've found on buses plus a purse that I found in the street and tracked down to the owner's home.
[QUOTE=ethansmum;36631783theres_no_point_blaming_JJB_for_your_loss.[/QUOTE]
JJB should (IMHO) have at least tried to ensure that they were returning the ipod to its rightful owner by asking just a few questions.0 -
Pollycat, its sad but true. I am honest I too have handed money, rings, phones allsorts that i've found over the years. However from my personally experience i have never got back anything that I have lost. I do believe in Karma though thats why I will continue being honest.July Win: Nokia 58000

I've had a handbag that I left in a taxi handed in and somebody handed my OH's wallet in that he'd lost.
Unfortunately, in addition to those of us who are honest and wouldn't dream of keeping something that doesn't belong to us, there are some really unscrupulous people that inhabit this world.
The woman who stole this ipod is a scumbag.
As I said earlier in this thread, I just hope that the old adage 'what goes around comes around' comes around and bites this woman on the bum.
I'm not usually one to wish someone else ill, but in this case I'll happily make an exception.0 -

But they have not taken possession of it, besides, if someone fly tipped on your land, would you take poossession of it??0 -
There is a well known precedent in British Law that is often quoted in cases such as this.
I'm unsure of the exact wording but I believe it goes something like "finders keepers, losers weepers..." :rotfl:
It's clear, Sandoval, that you've not read the whole thread.
This scumbag of a woman DIDN'T find the ipod.
A member of staff did.
This scumbag of a woman was at the desk paying for her items when she overheard that member of staff saying he'd found the ipod.
She left the store, returned and asked if an ipod (or at least an iphone initially) had been handed in.
So your silly "well known precedent in British Law" has nothing to do with this situation.0 -

There is a difference between fly tipping (a crime in it's own right) and losing something by accident. So your reply makes no sense (but continues to highlight your problems with understanding things). The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

So when I do my scout pack today and they leave their coats in the entrance, do I take possession of their coats.
No, they are left at the owners risk
Same with the iPOD. The owner of the iPOD did not have an accident, their negligence in the first place left the item there. It did not come into the possession of JJB, but they acted in the best interests and returned the item to the person whom they thought, correctly at the time, had a right to own it. They acted in good faith.
Now on to the subject of your ball coming into my yard, you do not have a right to come on my land and retrieve your goods, as this is trespass. Nor do I have to give you the ball back, though I can, in 28 days time take the item to the police and say no one has come round and claimed this ball. The onus would be on the loser to stake a claim to this.
I believe that after another period of time, if no one then come up and claims the ball, the ball would come into my possession. With perishable goods, then they may be sold, though the money may be returned to the owner, but again after a period of time, it would come to the finder.
Again this is not theft either! ( believe the original owner of the said has not shown up yet!)

In this case, then Sandoval is correct! There is a well known precedent in British Law that is often quoted in cases such as this.

Your example is still balls.
your link for a local paper in Grimsby is a special case. Lying next to a bin made it probable it was abandoned not lost as the article makes clear. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

The question is did JJB take "Reasonable steps" to find the correct owner? I don't believe they did.0
