I would have thought though JJB would have questioned the woman a bit further, like what colour it is, model etc. Or been suspicious that she said it was an Iphone to begin with.
£150 iPod could well be the £149 last-gen iPod Touch which looks nearly identical to an iPhone.

Plus it's JJB not an electrical retailer... you can understand how they might get confused.
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

Freddie Snowbits, what does being pregnant have to do with anything?

It is as relevant as this!

I think making thieves and rogues pay for their crimes is an outstanding use of taxpayers money. Just wish they would make sure they fine her more than the investigation costs.

So would you advocate chopping the arms off offenders? That only cures the repeat offender, does the opportunist deserve this punishment?
Its never morally right to wander off with something thats not yours, and its something I can say hand on heart I have never done.

So if you were at work when you posted this, is that not theft of the computer or inappropriate use?

As morely wrong it is, the taking of a pen home from work is exactly the same!

But I wasn't at work, I was at home using the net connection I pay for, and I have never taken so much as a pen from anywhere. Not even an Ikea pencil thank you very much.

I was raised to treat others as I would like to be treated myself, so stealing anything, regardless of how small is wrong.

You can dress it up however you like Freddie, but it still boils down to the same thing, you happily condoned your wife stealing, to the point where you came on these forums to boast about it. Nothing you say to try and justify that will make it right.

I had a similar experience where the thief could easily be traced but the company refused to get involved. Someone had got hold of my card details and was using it to buy phone credit. They got £120 out of my bank account by the time I noticed (£30 each week, so it just didn't register for a while) and I had to cancel my card and be reimbursed by my bank. The mobile company said they couldn't give out the thief's details and since my bank had reimbursed me anyway I let it go- but it still irritates me that they got away with it.

All this whining about how kids that age shouldn't gave expensive gadgets is missing the point really. Most of us have made a mistake and lost our possessions at some point- adults included. The fact remains the woman is an opportunist thief and JJB are choosing to ignore this fact. They've seen the evidence and she could be caught so easily, yet they have clearly decided they want to stay right out of it.

The way I see it they have made two crucial mistakes. One, announcing the lost property in front of customers, and two, not asking the woman questions to determine it was her property, which is especially bad when she thought she was getting an iphone, not an ipod. They are partly responsible and should own up to their mistake, but legally they don't have to do anything. I think your best bet is to contact your local papers- if you kick up enough of a fuss then JJB might change their position on this, and even if they don't, you've at least made other people aware of how useless they are.

I support a hefty fine and compensation or return of the stolen goods. I do not condone or support state brutality of any kind. The only reason you could infer that from the post I made is you are somewhat unstable.

That would be morally, I think morely means like a specific type of mushroom.

I am seething, and my son even more so. I will make him aware of all the good advice on here and hope that some of it makes a difference and either JJB or the police will attempt to do something about the matter.

It's not about whether an 11 year old kid should have an expensive ipod if he can't take proper care of it. It's just sad that he has to see that crime pays and as one person said, that the police are useless at times, when he's been brought up to respect them.
  • I used to work for a large grocery facility on customer services and any lost property had to be fully logged and when claimed, we had to get I.D. with a name and address on it, which had to be entered onto the copy of the original logged sheet. We would always ask questions that only the real owner would know.

Shame on JJB, which branch was it?
  • I once found an ipod at an old job.

    Question 1: what model/ capacity
    Question 2: what colour
Question 3: list artists you know to be on here....

Had one try it on and got all 3 wrong lol. It's not hard to check. Most could guess a few for number 3 but would inevitably hey the rest wrong.
    Back by no demand whatsoever.
