Informing on neighbour

  • er....how do you know this person has committed benefit fraud.
you are jumping to assumptions, the op came and asked what we do in his position report him or not.

i said i would knock on his door and try and sort this out but some people disagree or agree..i think honesty is the best policy and i actually didnt say !ollocks i said a pair, some people should use them sometimes if people are man enought to talk behind peoples backs and making accusations they are man enough to try and sort the problem out.

    my opinion:)
  • Right sorry I couldn’t post last night was having a few problems with our internet connection (damn broadband dongle took me 3 hours to sort it out!).

Anyway as regards knocking at his house and talking to him about it. I had already considered it but think it would be counterproductive. He’s already made his decision to run a mechanics workshop in his back garden and I can’t see how asking politely will make him close it down and rent a proper garage and he’s not exactly going to be able to hammer or drill more quietly is he – he either does it or he doesn’t. Furthermore, as others have stated, if and when we do complain to the authorities if we’ve knocked at his house previously then he’s got a ready made suspect to take his vengeance out on.

My missus has already shouted a few comments over the fence to him about the noise and each time he’s completely blanked her so I doubt he’d be very responsive to a knock at the door anyway. He seems a strange kind of bloke. He’s very grizzly looking and often stands by the fence just staring at people, which freaks the kids out!

TBH I would ignore someone "shouting comments" over the fence at me  perhaps if you'd bothered to have a reasonable, polite conversation with your neighbour you'd get a polite, reasonable response back !!

I'd be careful about shouting over the fence at him again - you never know,he may complain to the council about your anti social behaviour.

jonny82 what you said 'grow a pair' suggests you meant a pair of *ollocks so you can stand corrected on that one as far as benefit fraud goes im confident that some one not going to work and using their home as work shop is commiting fraud of some sorts as no one will be given permision to use residential dwelling as car workshop so yes i can say everyone agreeing with neighbour is advising fraud like i also said op should report this and let the relevent peeps deal with.
as far as ignoring some one shouting over fence at me i wouldnt like it but i would stand back and think about why they are and if i thought i was in wrong then i would resolve the situation asap asfter all they are my neighbours. but i certanly wouldnt ignore them.

you are jumping to some pretty wild conclusions considering nobody here is in full receipt of the FACTS.
the guy could be a lottery winner tinkering with cars in his spare time, he could be doing some work on friends/neighbours cars as a favour, he may well be running a business from his home with required permission seeing as he was there before the OP moved in to their home. Nobody knows for sure what the full story is...
