I read that thread but didn't see that post - was it removed?

Just had a search and yes, it does appear to have been removed. I did report it. Hopefully Gammyman has been removed entirely (with tongs)

!!!!!! you guys! How is this bickering benefiting the OP?

OP, as you have said that the noise is causing such distress to you and your family, please do report this. They will do all the relevant check ups to make sure that his business is legit etc.

Let us know how you get on.

  • Right sorry I couldn’t post last night was having a few problems with our internet connection (damn broadband dongle took me 3 hours to sort it out!).

Anyway as regards knocking at his house and talking to him about it. I had already considered it but think it would be counterproductive. He’s already made his decision to run a mechanics workshop in his back garden and I can’t see how asking politely will make him close it down and rent a proper garage and he’s not exactly going to be able to hammer or drill more quietly is he – he either does it or he doesn’t. Furthermore, as others have stated, if and when we do complain to the authorities if we’ve knocked at his house previously then he’s got a ready made suspect to take his vengeance out on.

My missus has already shouted a few comments over the fence to him about the noise and each time he’s completely blanked her so I doubt he’d be very responsive to a knock at the door anyway. He seems a strange kind of bloke. He’s very grizzly looking and often stands by the fence just staring at people, which freaks the kids out!

Give the Council a ring. They will tell you if you are allowed to run that type of business from your home. If you explain your concerns they may well investigate and put a stop to it.

Your not reporting him your asking for advice. Armed with the information from them, speak to neighbours and as a group complain to the council.

    Grow up OP!

Have you made any calls yet regarding your situation? Council, HA, Housing Officer, Enviromental Health, etc etc???

I think you have more than enough advice on this thread to make a decision. You have to make this yourself. We can't do it for you.

  • im only saying what i would do in your situation i would tell him that he cant rule the street.

this is why things get out of hand and i would certainly be man enough to say what i wanted,if people were to speak there minds there would be less people in the world like this man your saying about.

its your call my way would be confront him tell him sort it!!
then if he didnt i would make sure he did and then tell the relevant people at whichever department;)

jonnyboy82 needss to grow up op was asking advice not to be insulted and told to grow a pair of ollocks. op you have been given variety of advice down to you which way to play it now good luck. Every one whom has told you to back off your neighbour working from home as mechanic are all agreeing to some one commiting fraud as you can be certain he wont be paying company insurance, tax, ni ectectect but he could well be claiming all sorts of benefits this needs nipping in the bud once and for all .....shame on the rest of you posters siding with his neighbour you should all be reported for advising benefit fraud .........shame

nobody even knows if the neighbour is claiming any benefits so how can you say they are advising benefit fraud?!?

The best thing he can do is report it to the relevant authorities who will investigate the situation...
