Put feet up on the seat and got a criminal record

Another example of our thankfully departed labour govt's over legislating and criminalising people.
Why don't we just use common sense?
The one thing I despise more than the Labour Goverment its ranting about things that simply are not true.
This is not a LAbout Government legislation. This is a bye-law on Merseyrail. Nothing to do with national legislature0 -
yeh good point apologies
well from my point of view not knowing the area and the problems on this line I think that a fine IS 100% acceptable but a criminal record is incredibly harsh imo -if he does get that when he goes to court
However how many of you have actually had a fine for speeding at some point or any road traffic offence and actually put lives at risk - did you get a criminal record - NO......you had some points on your license and unless going for a job where a clean licence was required this had no affect whatsoever on your future prospects
Putting your feet up on a seat could affect his LIFE....im sorry a criminal record is simply ridiculous
If a road traffic incident goes to court and results in a fine it goes on your record.0 -

Its a bye law on ALL railways over the country not just merseyrail"If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -
Occasionally, on a long late-night journey by rail or coach I'll slip my shoes off, pop a coat or jumper over my lap and put my feet up either under me or on a spare seat (where the carriage is mostly empty)... 6-10 hours sat bolt upright would be unbearable.
I would never dream of putting shoes on any surface besides the floor, at home or away.
Without knowing the exact situation this chap was in, it's difficult to judge... although it sounds from various posts like he had no excuse and was just being uncouth. But to spend money prosecuting him for a criminal charge? Ridiculous.Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -

and as mynameisdave said: Bye laws are not made up by the government!
Anti social behaviour needs clamping down on! and if it means fines and criminal records GOOD! No one forces them to act how they do!

That sucks. But I will admit, sometimes when I'm really tired I put my feet up (with no shoes on btw) but most of the times my legs aren't long enough for my feet to reach the other seat. lol0

I travel to and from work, 35 miles each way, on a train. It's not cheap at £3900 a year, the trains are old, there's no air conditioning, but driving to work isn't an option. The behaviour of some people who I travel alongside is a constant source of wonder and disgust to me.
Aside from the feet on the seat brigade, there are the putting on full makeup women, I've seen nail filing, eyebrow plucking and even teeth flossing (eurgh!). Then on the train home, we have the Burger King munchers and The Pasty Shop customers. If I had my way, I'd close down the bl00dy Pasty Shop at Liverpool Street station, it stinks.
If I were the beak, the OP's nephew would be given life imprisonment without parole, or would have to travel on National Express East Anglia every day, in the seat next to me while I berated him all the way there and all the way back.
No one, no matter what their crime, deserves that!0 -
I wonder how many people were given a criminal record under the previous tory govt for putting their feet on a seat on a train? It doesnt really matter how long the bye-law has been there, it is the execution of the law to the fullest extent that we are talking about. And under labour everyone was very much encouraged to fine and slap a record on everyone and anything possible.0

ugh... doesnt really matter though!
You can blame labour all you want they didnt make up the bye law!they didnt enforce it! they didnt force the person to put his feet up on the seats!
A lot of people blame the anti social behaviour on the fact that teachers were stopped giving kids the cane and a clip around the ear! and the fact national service was stopped!
The fact still remains there are CLEAR signs stating do not put feet on seat! if the "adult" was too stupid and ignorant to read it then tough !!!!!!!
The louts need to be taught lessons! if they dont like the idea of a criminal record or a fine then the answer is simple behave yourself!
Im sure Thesaint would soon whine if they got muck or !!!!!! on their clothes after sitting on a seat that some ignorant person had stuck their mucky shoes on!
The rules are the rules and they are displayed plain enough for people to see!0
