Put feet up on the seat and got a criminal record

think the title of the OP is a bit misleading to start with...
Put feet up on the seat and got a criminal record
has he been to court and convicted or has he accepted the terms of a caution? if not, then surely he hasn't got a criminal record...unless he already had one?
I'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j
Those who can do, those who can't, come to me for lessons:cool:0 -

Well yes, it is. It is a railway bye-law (on the Merseyrail network at least, not sure about elsewhere in the country).
Obviously the question of should it be a crime is different and open to debate.0 -

yeh good point apologies
well from my point of view not knowing the area and the problems on this line I think that a fine IS 100% acceptable but a criminal record is incredibly harsh imo -if he does get that when he goes to court
Yeh I know he should have seen the signs and his mother should have told him to put his feet down, he shouldnt have them up there in the first place - again 100% agree with all of this
However how many of you have actually had a fine for speeding at some point or any road traffic offence and actually put lives at risk - did you get a criminal record - NO......you had some points on your license and unless going for a job where a clean licence was required this had no affect whatsoever on your future prospects
Putting your feet up on a seat could affect his LIFE....im sorry a criminal record is simply ridiculous0 -

Just out of interest, why would anyone in this situation give their name and address in this instance? Walk of the train - sorted. If my post helped you in anyway, please hit the "Thanks" button! Please note any advice I give is followed at your own risk!0

A fine and a court summons seems strange to me. It's like punishment (a fine) then potential punishment again for the same offence? Is this correct?Bought, not Brought0

There is no way anyone should be faced with a criminal record for putting their seats on a chair. A fine, yes, totally understandable. There are so many worse things out there that go unpunished in the criminal system, this is just ludicrous!0

Another example of our thankfully departed labour govt's over legislating and criminalising people.
Why don't we just use common sense?
Warn him, if when you walk past again he is doing it again fine him.
Criminal record is absolutely stupid.
I have travelled to work on the train for years and I too hate it when people do this but I wouldnt give them a criminal record for it.0 -
Well the warnings are already given, many many many times, you'd have to be simple not to know. So I think a fine on the first instance is entirely appropriate. Criminal record as has been said before on the other hand is daft.0
