Some more for you, it does vary from area to area, but these are recruiting nationally.

    whsmithcareers.co.uk

Also check in your local town centre as there are still stores which recruit the old fashioned way with a poster in the window. :)

My son has applied for M & S four years in a row. They have an online 'talent test' where you have to choose one answer out of four. He has failed every time and we don't know what the right answers should be. It makes me SO ANGRY!

Your son is very lucky. My son has applied for Argos two years in succession and has not even had an acknowledgement. I have sent a complaint to Argos about the design of their application form. There is a section for applicants to fill in details of current or previous employers but no space for them to give details of referees other than employers. If a young person has not worked before, where do they put details of their referees?

Did the same thing for the same reason, hope they improve it next year!

    On topic,

My local ASDA have finally released 5 new posts and have applied for them all, I have been checking since August :P

I applied for Boots but within 5 minutes they emailed to say I didn't make it.

I tried The Body Shop too and got no response.

Anywhere else I can try in the Wolverhampton area for weekend jobs?

Anyone know when WHSmith start recruiting? I did ask in store today and got a helpful "Errrrrrr...I dunno". Not sure if they have advertise online or not.

Have a look on the jobcentre plus website, they have advertised lots of xmas WHsmith jobs in my area recently, might be the same for you.

Somebody else mentioned earlier on the thread, how about JD Wetherspoon? I'm sure they would be more than happy to take on weekend staff and they are not a bad company to work for too.
  • The Post Office are recruiting for Christmas workers. I got 3 weeks work in December today.

Eleanory, I know exactly how you feel, and share great empathy with your son too. I have also experienced such infuriating recruitment processes from these stores. These lengthy online tests are just ridiculous, and a total waste of time. They should be scrapped - NOW.

My local Iceland were accepting CVs today only for the 3 xmas temp jobs, it wasn't advised in the window so it might be worth going down to your local soonish with CV in hand if thats what you fancy :)

Can anyone confirm if Boots send a 'thanks but no thanks' email to everyone that applies online but isn't successful?
  • Eleanory - I'm doing the M&S form right now ! I've just made a thread about one of the questions cos I found it so difficult. Go see, I want your opinion....

The person who manages to get taken on by Boots deserves a pat on the back for the achievement! Don't know how many times I've tried to get even a temp Xmas job with them, but have have constantly been knocked back by those accursed online sift forms with their myriad questions!
