Hi all,

We’ve now installed the new spam button. It works in the same way as the old one but it’s on every post now rather than just on the thread. Here’s how it works:

In most boards you can now click the button on every post, to signal you believe that it is 'Spam' (located bottom right of the post next to the abuse button). Hopefully it goes without saying but please only click something that you genuinely think to be Spam!

What happens: The post gets removed from the forums when enough users agree it's spam (though it is later reviewed by the abuse team, who could reinstigate it).

If it's an abusive rather than spam thread, please continue to use the abuse button or abuse@moneysavingexpert.com to report it.

Please let us know if you spot any glitches by clicking reply and posting here.

Thanks

How many users have to agree before it "vanishes" ?

• I personally think you need both, ie. you get an OP spamming, some people may follow up with "go away" or whatever. Really the whole thread served no purpose and it was useful to get rid of it all with the spam button

I use the old version of MSE nad can't see the new button. I don't like the layout but it looks like the new features aren't added if using the old layout...

But if the OP is the spammer - and the button get pressed enough times - then the very 1st post of a thread would be "deleted" ... and if a thread doesn't have a 1st post then surely there isn't a thread?

I'm sure either a Mod would (or could) be alerted so that they can remove the whole thread or better still it could be set up so that the "removal" of Post #1 does indeed "remove" the whole thread :)

I agree with the removal of post #1 removing the thread idea
Even the originator can't edit -> delete their post if it's #1 (button is not there),

ETA have just seen a spammer's thread disappear on 2 forums now where they started the thread and there were follow ups, so it does have the same effect

The expired button is still there, it's never been missing

I couldn't see it anywhere as I'm sure it used to be down at the bottom near the others. You saying it was still there made me search properly so thankyou! :jI'm sure it never used to be up at the top though, did it?
• Really great addition, thanks :)

Whilst internet fora users have long been used to seeing a picture of a tin of Spam to identify a spam post, I wonder if Hormel Foods has given its permission to MSE to use both its trademark and a picture of its product to denote something that is rubbish ?

All publicity is good publicity though :p

Personally i think the Abuse and Spam buttons shouldn't be full size.

How many people use the quick reply button? I can't say i've ever used it on any forum, in at least 8 years of using forums regularly.

I think the triangle sign and spam photo could be made small and put up on the right next to the post number. Too many buttons.
• Great idea but could the 'Thanks' and 'Entered' buttons be side by side, all cosy, like? :)

Someone famous said this, but I can't remember who!
