When I was in Asda on Friday I decided to buy 4 tins of chocolate biscuits(mcvities Victoria 600g)they were £3 each, and 4 big tubs of jacobs crackers 900g they were £3 each and they are stashed in a cupboard for christmas.
  • Not started buying as not 100% sure what our plans are yet (ill health in the family :-( ). But have started planning and getting together my recipes so I know what i need to make and how far in advance I can do it. Last year was about not buying loads but having home made and in theory better quality food (not all of my recipes worked lol!). Think I'll start at the end of next month. Plus as a lot of posters said if I buy it too far in advance it will get eaten!!

No but I am looking and thinking about it. If I'm honest I'd prefer to go away at christmas but we can't afford to so will start my building up the stores soon.

Trouble is we don't really like chocolate, we still had tins left over last year...in fact I've just binned my thorntons easter egg which was sat on the cupboard from earlier this year.:o

What I definately will do is get my order in early for an organic turkey.

  • I get most cards paper etc in January sales and then have a list of everyone for Christmas and Birthdays and buy throughout the year whenever I see a bargain that someone will like. I have stopped thinking "Oh that would be nice for ..." and not buying it, so many times I have waited and then when it is their birthday or Christmas IT is no longer available. Now if I see something suitable I buy it, and mark off their name in my diary as done!!! I do have 4 adult children and their other halves, 8 grandchildren, Parents x2 and a sister, 3 brothers in law, and their other halves, and their children or grandchildren plus some friends to buy presents for. If I waited until Christmas Eve I would have a nervous breakdown.

Food wise I have just bought 6 tins of Celebrations from Tesco B1G1F! Fortunately I have a spare bedroom and put all the presents and non perishables in there, once the door is shut I do not even think about all the chocolate sweets - just as well with 6 tins!!! LOL I usually wait to get other stuff but now I am reading this post the freezer maybe full by the end of September!!!

Thank you to all who post

  • Last weekend I won a tin of Roses and a tin of Quality Street in a raffle.
Brilliant thought I, and put them away for Christmas. Just one week later and the quality street are finished and the roses turned out to be nearly 3 years out of date :( hubby opened them amd they smelt terrible..yuk. Have 3 children and a chocoholic hubby!!
Did get cards in January....just need to remember where I put them!

.... Xmas cards and wrapping paper bought in the January sales.
.... All childrens (Friends & Family) presents bought already. Thinking of wrapping them but feel thats a step too far.

Husband away in sunnier climates back in January (sometime)! So having a relaxed Christmas day with pizza and snacks with the kids, and maybe the odd glass of wine (me not the kids) and then buying our Xmas dinner and all the extras in the sales for a delayed Christmas in January :)

Also making a homemade boozy Xmas cake, to smuggle out to hubby. As it will be the only way he can get a drink over the festive season!

Just thinking of ideas to put into a Xmas stocking to post out to him to make it special out there..

Any ideas welcome.. Not chocolate at it melts by the time he gets it.

Hi Weezl and her team have been working on a christmas planner which is still cheap but provides the christmas essentials. The linkie is here http://www.cheap-family-recipes.org.uk/planner-christmasweek.html . This is still the test planner but it gives a good indication of what you can do on a budget.:D
