I've had two SC's (one 3.5l and now a 6.5l) and both have been oval. I quite like the idea of an oval one as it will easily take a turkey drumstick, whole chicken, lamb shanks etc.0

You can get round ones, but oval is better as they are longer and therefore take longer things such as Olliebeak mentions. They will hold the same amount as round ones but they give you more scope.0 -

Ah I see, but I'm just not sure how well round cakes would cook in an oval slow cooker - as in whether the temperature would be consistent, as two sides of the cake would be closer to the sides so therefore cook quicker?0 -
this one is round and it has £30 off

Thanks so much, but I decided I wanted a 6.5l one, otherwise it would have been ideal!!! I actually bought one from Argos late last night, several of their slow cookers are reduced at the moment. I bought the Rachel Allen one for £24.99 instead of £34.99. Might use it today.(8u998-my cat just walked across my keyboard!)0 -
i have a morphy richards 6.5L and am going to put some diced beef, vegetables and a beef stew packet mix in slow cooker tomorrow, how long should i cook it for and would i put the same amount of liquid that the pack says as 3/4 of a pint doesnt seem very much. also trying to use stuff from freezer and pack of diced beef has march date on this, it looks ok not loads of ice or anything but is it too long in freezer to be using now in november0
-
Around six hours should do it as the beef is diced so shouldn't take too long to cook. 3/4 of a pint may not seem like much but you'll get some liquid from the meat and as you are cooking it in a slow cooker steam doesn't get the chance to evaporate like it does in normal cooking.
I'll add your post to the Slow cooker Quick Questions thread as your post may help others.

When do you add baked beans to the slow cooker?
I've got a colemans sausage sachet mix and it says to add baked beans and worcs sauce for a twist
I was going to put the sausages, onions, sachet, beans and worcs sauce on at 8am on low until 5pm... will the baked beans be ok?
Thanks
