I'm pretty sure that you can. I think I saw a recipe for egg custard in one of my books somewhere. Hang on while I go check...
...
.. Yep!
Egg custard for sure, so I don't see why you can't do creme caramel as well.
Maker your custard using hot milk.
Cover with foil.
Put a jam jar lid in the crockpot and stand your bowl on it.
Pour boiling water into the crockpot to come half way up the dish.
Cook on low for rour hours.

Is it worth me getting one?
I had a slow cooker years and years ago and you plugged it in and left it on for hours and hours, but it didn't seem very energy efficient and so I got rid of it.
These days slow cookers seem to have taken off again, but how is it money saving?
(No doubt this has been asked before, so apologies for any duplication, just don't have time to wade through them all right now.)spendy/she/her ***DEBT-FREE DATE: 11 NOVEMBER 2022!*** Highest debt: £35k (2006) MY WINS: £3,541 CASH; £149 Specsavers voucher; free eye test; goody bag from Scottish Book Trust; tickets to Grand Designs Live; 2-year access to Feel Amazing App (worth £100); Home Improvement & Renovation Show tickets; £50 to spend on chocolate; Harlem Globetrotters tickets; Jesus Christ Superstar tickets + 2 t-shirts; Guardians of the Galaxy goody bag; Birmingham City v Barnsley FC tickets; Marillion tickets; Dancing on Ice tickets; Barnsley FC v Millwall tickets0 -

I'm a bit of a slow cooker newbie but I know mine costs a couple of pence an hour to run, plus it copes best with the toucher/cheaper cuts of meat so the saving is 2 fold really.0 -
I've been reading through the slow cooker threads on here and I have some questions...
1 - Do I need to add water when cooking things in a slow cooker?! I keep reading references to adding water, but not too much and I'm confused!
2 - I want to make lamb in my slow cooker. (It's a Tower Slo-Cooker Compact, very old, my mum got it for her wedding over 25 years ago.) How long would it take to cook? Can I just add veg in aswell? I'd like to make some sort of sauce/gravy to go with it, could this be done whilst cooking the lamb too?
Thanks0 -
Hi sophisticated, I'm still learning myself. When I did a stew recently I put veg in but put them at the bottom as they take longer. Also I added cornflour at the end to make up a sauce/gravy but I already had ale and stock barely covering it from the start. I'm not sure about roasting meat but would think you'd need a little liquid to stop it sticking and also to make gravy.0

Thought it worth mentioning on here that Amazon are doing some good deals on Morphy Richards. There's a 3.5 in black or s/steel for approx £16.60 and a 6.5 in s/steel for £21.03.
I was on there looking for a good sc book with basic soups and stews but most seem to be either too fancy or else American. Can anyone help?0 -
